Robert H. Morton, 53, of 230 Commonwealth Ave NE, died 12 August 1976, upon arrival at Doctors Hospital, from a heart condition. He was the vice president of Mortons of Massillon and manager of the downtown store. He was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School and, while still in high school, became an employe of the J.C. Penney Co. store in Massillon, where he was employed until 1951 when he and his brother, Everett S. Morton, opened the Office supply and stationery business.

He served from 1943 to 1946 with the Army Engineers and was stationed at Saipan in the Pacific, the Philippines and in Japan during the occupation. He was back with the Penney's store from 1946 to 1951.

Mr. Morton was a member and former president of the Massillon Merchants Association and a member of the Massillon area Chamber of Commerce. He was a past commander of Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mardell (Yoder) Morton; a daughter, Mrs. David (Marian) Poindexter of Massillon, two sons, Lloyd Morton of Massillon and Ned Morton at home, two brothers, Everett of Massillon and William Morton of Orrville; and two grandchildren.

Interment in the Newman Creek Chapel Cemetery at North Lawrence.

Friday's issue, August 13, 1976 - page 4 commented: "Personable and accommodating, he was liked by all who knew him."
