Volume 8, Wills Proved and Registered in the Archdeaconry Court of Cornwall, From the 11th of May 1762 to the 15th Day of May 1764, Both Inclusive. JONAS RECKARD - Page 116, 117 and 118 In the Name of God Amen June the 8th 1761 I Jonas Reckard of the Parish of St. Stephens in Brannel in the County of Cornwall; being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body [and?] knowing it is appointed for all men once to dye, I do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent and Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall recive the same again by the mighty Power of God, and as touching such worldly goods wherewith it hast pleased God to bless me in this life I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath unto my daughter Caroline twenty shillings to be paid her within one year after my decease. Item I give and devise and bequeath all my messuages and tenements wheresoever the same are scituate, lyeing and being whereunto I am intituled together with all my goods and chattle, bills, bonds and ready money whatsoever and wheresoever the same is unto my brother Francies Reckard tynner of the parish of St. Mewan in Cornwall and the survive and survior of him his Executors, adms. and assignes upon this trust and confidence neverthelest in him the said Francis Reckard and to and for the uses, intents and purpposes hereafter mentioned and declared of and concearning the same (that is to say) That he the said Francis Reckard and the survivors and survivor of him his Executors, adms. and assignes do and shall immediately after my decease, in the first place make sale of all or any of my effects to discharg my lawfull debts and funeral charges, And also upon this farther use, intent [and?] purpose, trust and confidence in him the said Francies Reckard reposed and to this farther use, intent and purpose that from and after y decease and after payment of my debts and funeral charges and the charges he shall be at? in the Probate of this my will and the administration of my effects (which shall and may be lawfull to detain out of my effects) That the the [two the] said Franies Reckard and the survivors [and?] survivor of him, his Executors, adms. and assignes shall stand and be possessed of the remainder of my effects as shall then remain undisposed of, John Rickard and Robert Reckard there Executors, adms. and assignes, and my further will is that the past share as divident of the remainder of my effects shall be paid and delivered to them when my eldest son Jonas Reckard shall and doth arrive to the age of twenty one years if he doth live live [two live] so long, and if not, the remainder of my effects shall be paid to the other two equal alike when my son Joh Reckard doth atain to the age of twenty one years, and if my son John Reckard doth not live to the age of twenty one years then it shall be paid immediately after his decease to my son Robert Reckard, and my will is that if my son Jonas Reckard doth lve to the age of twenty one years that the part, share or devident of the remainder of my effects shall be equally devided share and share alike between them my three sons Jonas Reckard, John Reckard and Robert Reckard as soon as my son Jonas Reckard shall atain to the age of twenty one years. Lastly I do make my brother Francies Reckard my hole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness wheres I have set my hand and seal this 8th day of June 1761. THOMAS BEST - Page 175 to 178 In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Best of the parish of St. Stephens in the County of Cornwall being of sound mind, memory and understanding resigning my soul unto Almighty God in hopes of mercy and forgiveness through the [?]ne merits and intercession of my Blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following (that is to say) First I will and direct that all my debts and funeral charges shall be satisfyed and paid and subject to the legacyes hereinafter bequeathed. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Edward Best the sum of ten pounds to be paid him at the end of one year after my decease. Also I do hereby order and direct in and by this my will that neither of my said trustees herein after named shall be any ways answerable or accountable for any more moneys than what shall come to each of their hands on account of the trust in this my will reposed. Also I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Susanna Best the tenement which I now live in commonly called or known by the name of the old pound situate in the aforesaid parish of St. Stephens to hold the same to her during her natural life provided she remain a widow otherwise (that is of her marriage or decease) my will is that the said estate be sold and the money to be disposed of as his herafter appointed for my other effects. Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife one cow, one bed, a brass pann and one crock, the same to be disposed of and sold by my said wife if she shall think proper. Also all the rest, residue and remainder of my goods, chattels, ready money, securitys for money and all other my personal estate whatsoever of what nature, kind or quality soever whereof I shall dye possessed of (subject as aforesaid) I do hereby give and bequeath unto Joseph Veale of the town of St. Austle in the Couty of Cornwall maltster, John Higman the younger of the same place and Edward Philips of St. Sephens & county aforesaid tinner and to their Execs. and Admiors. upon the trusts hereinafter mentioned (that is to say) upon trust that they the said Joseph Veale, John Higman and Edward Philips and the survivor of them and the Execs. and Admions of such survivor do and shall from and immediately after my death and decease or as soon after as conveniently maybe sell and dispose of all and singular my goods, chattels, estate and effects to the best advantage and for the best price that can or may be had or gotten for the same. And that out of the moneys ariseing by sale of the said premisses my will and meaning is and I do hereby order and direct that they my said trustees do and shall in the first place from and after the sale and disposition of my estate and effects take out of the moneys ariseing by sale of the said premisses the several sums of twenty pounds and thirty pounds so advanced and paid by me to Richard Best my son and Susanna Eedy my daughter (lately called Susanna Best) in manner folowing (that is to say) To the said Richard Best my son the sum of twenty pounds and to the said Susanna my daughter the sum of thirty pounds, and after such deduction so made to distribute and divide the same equally between Thomas Best my son, Phileman Best and Sarah Best in order that they may have an equal share, part and proportion of my estate and effects with the said Richard Best and Susanna Eedy And after such division so made as aforesaid my will and meaning is (?)d I do hereby declare that my said trustees do and shall retain and keep back in their hands out of the residue of the moneys ariseing by sale of my estate and effects as aforesaid the sum of twenty pounds to be by them applyed and disposed of for the better maintenance and education of my daughter Sarah in such manner as they shall think fit untill she attains the age of twenty one years, and after the said tweny pounds shall be (?) taken out by my said trustees for the use and purpose aforesaid. That then and in such case my will and meaning is that all the residue and remainder of the moneys so raised by sale of the said premisses and so remaining in the hands of my said trustees shall be equally divided among them the said Thomas Best, Phileman Best, Sarah Best, Richard Best and Susanna Eedy share and share alike at the discretion of my said trustees or the survivor of them; And my further will and meaning is that they the said Joseph Veale, John Higman and Edward Philips and the survivor of them his Execs. and admons shall and may reimburse and retain to themselves or himself out of the moneys that shall be by them respectively received, all such necessary and reasonable costs, charges and expences as they or either of them shall sustain or be put unto for or by reason or means of the Execution of the trusts bore by reposed in them or of any other matter or thing whatsoever relating thereto, And I do hereby make, nominate, constitute and appoint the said Joseph Veale, John Higman and Edward Philips executors in trust of this my will to and for the several uses, ends, intents and purposes aforesaid and to and for none other use, end, intent or purpose whatsoever, hereby revoking and making void all former and other will or wills by me at anytime heretofore made, declaring this to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I have to this my will ingrossed or written on two sheets of paper sett my hand and seal to each of the said sheets this seventeenth day of August 1762 Thomas Best Signed, sealed, published and declared} by the said Thomas Best as and for his} last will and testament in the presence} of us who have hereunto sett our names} as witnesses in his presence, at his request} and in presence of each other} the sign of Mary Best the sign of Grace Snell The before written will of the above named Thomas Best deced is a true copy examined and compared with the original this 4th day of September 1762. Bond being first given etc? ( saveing etc? Inventy. 697: 14: 4 SUSANNA HARRIS - Page 246 - 248 In the Name of God Amen this seventeenth day of December 1762. William Martain my gold ring and five shillings to be delivered her within one year after my decease. It give and bequeath unto John Martin one shilling to be paid within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Henry Martain my cousin one shilling to be paid him within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Walter Trethewy, Elizabeth Trethewy and Ann Trethewy son and daughters of my cousen Walter Trethewy one pound one shilling each of law full money of Great Britain to be paid them within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Ann Trethewy wife of the said Walter Trethewy my best gownd and appron to be delivered her within two months after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Elizebeth Hicks that now lives with me, one cow and the old mare and the best feather bed furnised and my second mourning gownd and the begest brass pan except one and the little table board and fram, and the ironing box and heatts and my best quilted coat and the little chist to be delivered to her within two months afer my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto John Hicks son of the above sd. Elizebeth Hicks a pewter platter markd with D:S:M: and two pewter plates and the little box and my son David's broad cloth coat to be delivered him within one month after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Susanna Harrias widow of William Harrias my son David's cambellet coat to be delivered her within one month after my decease. Item all the rest of my goods and chattels, messuages, ~ tenements, bills, bonds and ready money whatsoever and wheresoever the same is I go hereby give and bequeath unto Thomas Trethewy son of my cousen Walter Trethewy making the said Thomas Trethewy my hole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. ( saving (etc?) No Inventy. WILLIAM PHILPS - Page 382-383 In the name of God Amen the 12 day of febarry 1761. I William Philps of (?) Paresh of S. Stephens in the countey Cornwell being very sick and week in body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore, taking unto mind the mortalaty of my body and knoing that it is appointed for all men once to dye do maek and ordain this my last Will and Testement that is to say Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be beuered in desent Christan burial at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by mighty power of God, and as tucking such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me, in this following manner and form. Itm. I give unto my son Degory the plase where he now dwell in excpten the red apel garn. Itm. I give unto my dartor Pressela ten pounds to be paid twellf monthes after my deses. Itm. No Inventy THOMAS MELLOE - Page 456-458 In the name of God Amen I Thomas Melloe of the parish of St. Stephens in Branwell in the County of Cornwall (Senr.?) being of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind and duely considering the uncertainty of Human life make this my last Will and Testament. First I commit my Soul into the Hands of my Blessed Maker trusting in his mercies and in the merits of my Dear Redeemer for the Remission of all my Sins, my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently Buried. Also my Temporal Estate I Bequeath and Dispose of it in the following manner. Imprimis I bequeath to my Dear wife the sum of five pounds a year to be paid her dureing her Life, the Bed that we lye on with all the furniture ~ belonging to him, my little crock, a little pan, a plater, a plate, a dish and spoon. Imprimis I bequeath to my son Thomas Melloe the sum of twenty shillings. Imprimis I bequeath to my daughter Ann Melloe the sum of fforty shillings. Imprimis I bequeath to my son William Mellow the sum of twenty shillings. Imprims I bequeath to my daughter Susanna Jewell the sum of twenty shillings. Imprimis I bequeath to my son Samwell Melloe the sum of ten pounds and half of my clock. Imprimis I bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Melloe the sum of five pounds and half of my clock. Imprimis I bequeath to my granson William Melloe son of John Melloe deced the sum of twenty shillings. Imprimis to my granson and grandaughter John Mellow and Elenor Mellow son and daughter of my son John Mellow deced I bequeath the sum of t(oo?) shillings to each of them. The residue and remainder of my estate, tenements, hereditaments with my goods, chattels and all other properties of what kind soever to me appertaining, I give, devise and bequeath unto my sons Philip Melloe and Richard Melloe whom I constitute and apoint whole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament; and I do hereby utterly revoke, disallow and disanul all of former requests, Wills and legacies by me hereto fore in any wise left or made, declaring, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.
