![]() | Robert's obituary appeared in the 31st of March, 1899 issue of The Daily Tribune a Johnstown, Pennsylvania newspaper. It reads: |
| Robert Bone, the Thirteenth-Ward grocer, died at his residence, No. 114 Lowman street, between 1 and 2 o'clock this morning. Mr. Bone had been sick nine weeks, and the cause of his death was asthma and heart failure. The subject of this sketch was born in Cornwall, England, in August, 1829, and was therefore in his seventieth year. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bone, who died a number of years ago in Canada. Mr. Bone was married in Cornwall in 1855 to Miss Kitto, a sister of John Kitto, who formerly resided here. Mr. and Mrs. Bone came to America in 1857 and located in this city for a short time, after which they went to Canada. In 1859 they returned to Johnstown where Mr. Bone secured a position with the Cambria Iron Company, working for that corporation until the Great Flood, not long after which event he opened a small grocery store on Lowman street. For a year or so Mr. and Mrs. Bone resided in the Second War in one of the houses owned by William Nicholas, a brother-in-law of "California Tom" Davis, deceased. During the Civil War Mr. Bone purchased a lot of ground from the C.I. Co., and also an adjoining property from a Pittsburger, and he and his wife have since resided in that part of the city. The deceased became a member of Alma Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, thirty-four years ago, and some time later joined William F. Packer Encampment, No. 127. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church shortly before he left England, and for several years he was a member of the local church of that denomination. At the time of his death he was a member of the U.B. Church. |
![]() | The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from his late residence, where Rev. J.I.L. Ressler, pastor of the First U.B. Church, will conduct the obsequies, after which interment will be made in Grand View Cemetery. |
