shipline

Reference to this ship was found in "Life In Cornwall, In The Mid Nineteenth Century", West Briton newspaper 1835-1854, R. M. Barton, c1971, page 69: "The Royal Adelaide, under the command of Mr. Joseph Vivian, left Falmouth harbour for New York, on Saturday last, with nearly 200 emigrants on board, the greater part of whom are miners from the western part of the county, destined to a place called Mineral Point, distant from New York about 2,700 miles. 27 March 1840".

Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, 1820 - 1846, Microcopy Number M237, Roll Number 41, 4 January 1840 - 18 May 1840, item number 191, Barq. Royal Adelaide, 21 April 1840.

Report of 194 Passengers on board the Barque Royal Adelaide of which Joseph Vivian is Master, arrived at the Port of New-York, in the State of New-York, on the Twenty first day of April 1840.

[Note - The columns were: "Names", "Age", "Place of Nativity", "Country from whence they have come", "To what Nation they belong and owe allegiance", "Their Occupation", "Description of their Persons". All were marked as having come from England. All were marked as allegiance to Great Britain. The numbers for the individuals were not on the microfilmed list of passengers - they are used here for easier reference.]
