Their marriage in Wilson County was recorded as Richard Melton and Polly Burdine. In 1830, Richard Melton lived in Wilson County. But by 3 July 1851, at the division of the estate of John Bodine, it was noted that 1/8th share would be retained by the clerk for the heirs of Polly Milton who died in Illinois (Wilson Co. Chancery Court Minutes, 1847-1853, p. 386). On 9 July 1859, the heirs of John Bodine appeared before the Wilson County Court and it was recorded that "...the children of Polly Milton, decd, have not been heard from for more than 7 years." (Wilson Co. Chancery Court Minutes, 1858-1860, p. 380).
