Notes for Oscar Lee Farmer
Oscar Farmer, having two sons, wanted to leave a farm to each son. So he mortgaged the family farm in Weakley County, Tennessee to buy a second farm. This was in the early 1920's. Unfortunately, he became ill with locked bowels (probably cancer) and died in 1925. The bank foreclosed and the farm was lost.

Thomas Harris Farmer, Oscar's cousin, was President of the People's Bank of Martin that foreclosed on the farm. A gentleman by the name of Lee Garner took care of Beulah Farmer during this crisis. Note that the 1920 Weakley County Civil District 7 Census indicates that Lee Garner was a neighbor. Lee Garner’s dwelling number was 405 and Oscar Farmer’s dwelling number was 408.

The following obituary was from the Dresden Enterprise, 8 May 1925.

"Mr. Oscar Farmer died Monday night at the hospital at Martin, following an operation for locked bowels.

The deceased was one of the most popular young farmers of the McClain Chapel neighborhood, where he was born, and reared. He was 52 years of age and is survived by his companion and two sons, to whom the sympathy of a host of friends is extended in this hour of great sorrow. Services were held at Ralston Baptist Church Tuesday by Rev. C. H. Felts and Rev. Johnnie Powers, followed by internment at the McClain Chapel Cemetery."

Note that in later years his remains were moved from the Martin Family Cemetery to the East Side Cemetery in Martin, Tennessee.
