The Wright Family of Dixon Co. Nebraska (pg. 4)

School children and their teacher in Dixon Co., Nebraska, about 1885
1.) Anna Eliza (Wright) Asbury    2.) Ella Quimby (Wright) Pfaff
3.) Possibly Lizzie Lockwood (?)    Others in this photo are unknown
My great-grandmother was  Anna Eliza (Wright) Asbury (no. 1 in photo),
who grew up in Martinsburg, married in Dixon Co. on Feb. 15, 1899 and had her first child, Earle Wright Asbury there on Dec. 21, 1899.  Her next three children, beginning in Aug. of 1901, were born in Waterville, WA. Anna's younger sister, Ella Quimby (Wright) Pfaff (no. 2 above) was born in Martinsburg on Nov. 24, 1879 and their mother,
Ella S. (Quimby) Wright, died there on Jan. 5, 1880 (see below).

Obituary of Ella S. (Quimby) Wright, who died in Martinsburg,
Dixon Co., Nebraska on Jan. 5, 1880 of typhoid pneumonia
This obituary transcription was made by my great-aunt Ferne (Asbury) Nelson and sent to her mother, Anna Eliza (Wright) Asbury - Ella's oldest daughter - in 1949:

"Died of typhoid pneumonia, at the residence of P.G. Wright, Esq., in Martinsburg, Dixon, Co., Neb., Jan. 5, 1880, Mrs. Ella Wright, wife of L.G. Wright, aged 28 yrs. The funeral was held at the Martinsburg school house, Jan. 8th. The funeral sermon was preached by Mr. Smith, the Methodist minister of this circuit.
Mrs. Wright was born at Aetna, Wisconsin, and when but 3 weeks old her mother died, and she was adopted by her Uncle Hosea Low, of Waukon, Allamakee Co., Iowa, where she was married Nov. 30, 1874, the ceremony being performed by Rev. B.C. Hammond, pastor of the M.E. Church of which she was a member.
Mrs. Wright moved with her husband to Martinsburg about 4 yrs. ago, and resided there until her death. She left one daughter 4 years old and one babe, 6 weeks old.
Mrs. Wright was an amiable and excellent woman, a sincere Christian, and a devoted wife and mother. Greatly beloved by all who knew her, she was followed to the grave by a large concourse of sorrowing friends."

Note: Ella S. Quimby was born after the 1850 census.  Her father "disappears"
from census records after this date, and several of her siblings are found in the houses of Solomon and Sarah (Low) Lightcap and of Joshua and
Susan (Low) Atwood during the 1860 census.  Although her obituary says
Ella was adopted by her uncle Hosea Low, she does not appear with him and his wife Laura A. (Stillman) Low in either the 1860 or 1870 census...
