General Notes:
It is not known, for certain, if Ann's maiden name was Low, but it is believed by myself and two researchers of the Low family that she was Henry Low's daughter. Ella S. (Quimby) Wright's obituary states that her mother died a few weeks after Ella's birth and since Ella died in 1880 at the age of 28, this would place this event in the late 1851/early 1852 timeframe. Ann Quimby's headstone in the "Old Loomey" cemetery appears to place her death in February of 1852. Selden and Ann Quimby are listed in the 1850 New Diggings, Lafayette County, Wisconsin census with Freeman B., Ann S., George and Maria. Ella Quimby's obituary states she was born in Aetna, Wisconsin (present-day Etna, north of New Diggings, about 1-1/2 miles east of Benton.) After Ann died, Selden Quimby married a widow, Margaret Mattisonn, and is listed in the 1855 state census and then "disappears" from public records. In the 1860 census, Freeman, Ann & George are listed as living with Solomon and Sarah (Low) Lightcap (daughter of Henry Low), and Alva is listed in the household of Joshua and Susan (Low) Atwood (also a daughter of Henry Low). Ella (Quimby) Wright's obituary also states that she was raised by her uncle, Hosea Low (son of Henry Low), but she does not appear in either the 1860 or 1870 census with Hosea Low, nor has Maria Quimby been found after the 1850 census.
Marriage Information:
Ann married Selden Quimby about 1841. (Selden Quimby was born about 1814 in Maine and died after 1855 in <Lafayette Co., WI>.)
