The British Isles DNA Project is divided into two parts.

British Isles 2 is a dual (Y-DNA and mtDNA) project that is open to persons whose family history or surname indicates a paternal or maternal lineage originating in the British Isles, but who have not identified an ancestor who lived in the British Isles.

Admission to British Isles 1, which is limited to males testing Y-DNA only, is subject to a requirement: members must provide the name, a date, and a place (town or parish, and county) for an ancestor in the direct paternal line (father, father's father, father's father's father, etc.) who lived in the British Isles.

Marsha Berry's Research ( And her Rootsweb site) has found 4 (3 new and 1 we already knew about) in the last few months.  Each of us must learn who our immigrant ancestor is and from where he came.  We have the need to know.

DNA testing may help us with these endeavors.
