Family Groups

Welcome to "Scattered Leaves" Family Groups section. Here, you'll find seven (7) main families and their genealogical information, however only two are available at this stage. It is hoped that the rest and database index will be available by end of 2005.

In each family group, there are two types of hyperlinks - blue coloured text indicates further pages/information available within this site, whereas the green provides the direct contact details to the appropriate descendants for further clarification or information.

Keyword:

- indicates the person was a convict - for further details, please go to Convicts page.

The THORNTON Family:

The family has been traced back as far to Samuel THORNTON, a tailor of London, possibly a native of West Riding Yorkshire, born around 1783. His wife, Sarah (maiden name unknown) has brought him and their little family - bar one child - to Sydney, Australia in 1814, and now there are numerous descendants living in Australia to this date. Only the earliest four generations are shown. Press for viewing families of THORNTON.

The HUMPHRIES Family:

A First Fleet convict, Edward HUMPHRIES/HUMPHREYS and his wife, Mary WILLIAMS, a Second Fleet convict started their lives and family in Sydney from 1788 and produced over a thousand descendants all over Australia now. Edward's parents were identified, by a cousin, to be William HUMPHRIES and Elizabeth HOLMES - the record shown them to be married at Chislehurst, Kent in England on 19th July 1764. However, any children of theirs, apart from our Edward, have not been traced to this date. Only the earliest five generations are shown. Press for viewing families of HUMPHRIES.

The AVERY Family:

It was claimed that my AVERY ancestry has been traced back to Nathanial AVERY, a French soldier who served the army of William the Orange back in 16th Century. He ended up living in Devon, Wales and married a Mary COLLINS. Now their descendants are scattered all over the world, numbered to be at about 5, 000 or more. An incomplete database of the AVERY family can be found here - from Thomas AVERY (1803-1866). Press for viewing his family.

The PALLIER Family:

My another French family, PALLIER or de PALLIER originated from a small village called Lisieaux, in the CAEN region of Normandy. My earliest ancestor, Jean Joseph PALLIER (born abt 1765) was exiled to England in 1793, and there he married a Margaret WATSON and had one son, John Joseph. There are, however, many gaps in this branch and it is hoped the claim to the huguenot connection can be confirmed soon.

The STATHIS Family:

My grandfather, Nicholas STATHIS emigrated to Australia from his home at Kythira Island, inside the Greece's Mediterranean Sea in 1910s. Not much was known of his life and his extended family in Greece, except that he was a solicitor and died as a grocer at Queanbeyan. He died in 1952, leaving seven children and many grandchildren all over in NSW. What is shown here is a little family tree details of the deceased individuals and old photos.

The STEIN Family:

My husband's family is quite interesting, as the earliest ancestor traced back was this Natan N, who 'escaped' from the old Russia in 18th century, travelled all the way  down to the present Israel with his brother, J. There are numerous descendants still living in Israel now, however there are many in both Australia and America.

The JACOBSON Family:

Another family of my husband, the JACOBSON family have much more difficult and horrifying experiences - many of the members of this family and its connected families have died during the Holocaust of WWII. However a young couple, propelled with the determination of their elders that their lives would not be wasted and their line ended, managed to escape and lived to the old age in Sydney, Australia, with a small number of descendants living around. Here, the story and lines of JACOBSON is shown, all the way back to 17th Century in Prussia and other surrounding countries.
