John M. Blondel's Military Record
The above is page 221 of the book: "Maryland Settlers and Soldiers,
1700 -- 1800's"
"The British Invasion of Maryland 1812, 1815"
The documents following show the military record of John M. or Jean
Marie Blondel. In a cursory review of the documents one may assume
that Jean Marie was not content during his military service. However,
on close examination it is clear that he was discharged because he was
an "alien." The historical record of our nation shows why and how
our President, Thomas
Jefferson at that time and day fought the Federalist political party
to protect the French immigrants. During that eventful time the President
also fought to preserve our national unity and capacity toward tolerance.
He was determined to maintain a grateful spirit toward France for that
nation's assistance during the American Revolution. Please see the
Alien and Sedition Act
for more information.
