[14] Godparents: The Schoolteacher August Strate in Kohlstädt, Philip Winter in Erdbruch, Arnold Stohlmann and Friedrich Stohlmann, both of Blomberg. Confirmed on Apr 4, 1852 in Blomberg, Lippe, Germany. [15] "Angenommen (accepted) am 5 ten May 1851". Immigrated on Jun 9, 1866 to New York, NY. [16], [17] Arrived on the "Baltic" from Bremen. Philip Arnold Heinrich (Henry) died in Gloucester City, NJ on Jul 23, 1936; he was 98. [8], [18] Time: 9:30 PM; Cause: Old age, arterioschlerosis. Buried on Jul 27, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA. [8] Northwood Cemetery. Occupation: Tasselmaker (For Curtains And Draperies). Listing from "Germans to America:" Blendermann, Heinrich; age 32, occupation unknown, origin Lippe/Detmold province, town unknown. He sailed on the ship Baltic (see photo) from Bremen to New York, arr. June 9, 1866. It carried ~630 passengers. According to other records, he was 27 (28 sixteen days after he arrived), not 32 years old. [19]

The following is a description of the "Baltic": Built in 1850 by Jacob Bell, New York (engines by Allaire Iron Works, New York) for the Collins Line, she was a 2,123 gross ton ship, length 282.5ft x beam 45ft, straight stem, one funnel, three masts (rigged for sails), wooden construction, paddle wheel propulsion and a speed of 12 knots. Accommodation was provided for 200-1st class passengers. Launched on 5/2/1850, she sailed from New York on her maiden voyage to Liverpool on Nov 16, 1850. In 1851, accommodation for 80-2nd class passengers was added and between August 6th-16th, 1851 she made a record passage between Liverpool and New York. In approx. 1853 her mizzen (third) mast was removed and she commenced her last Liverpool - New York voyage on Feb 3, 1858 (arr New York Feb 18, 1858). This was the last voyage of the company which was then wound up, and the "Baltic" was laid up from 1858-9. On July 9, 1859 she was bought by the North Atlantic Steamship Co. and ran between New York and Aspinwall until 1860, when she was laid up again. In 1861 she was used as a Civil War transport, and on April 26, 1866 commenced the first of two round voyages for North American Lloyd between New York, Southampton and Bremen. On Feb 21, 1867 she sailed fom New York on the first of five round voyages for the New York & Bremen Steamship Co between New York, Southampton and Bremen. Her last voyage commenced on Oct 21, 1867 and in 1870 her engines were removed. She was finally scrapped in 1880.

He was still listed with an occupation (weaver, mill) in the 1920 census when he lived with son August in Darby, age 81! [20]

[26] Cause: arteriosclerosis, cardiac asthma; Time 4 AM. Buried on Jan 6, 1917 in Drexel Hill, Delaware Co., PA. [26] Arlington Cemetery. Occupation: Cabinetmaker, Furniture Manufacturer.

Served in the Union Army with the 53rd Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry from Sept. 1862 - Sept. 1863; duty in Baton Rouge and Port Hudson, LA.

Received US Patent No. 192,252 (June 19, 1877) for the design of a tilting, rotating, adjustable table (card table size); manufactured in Worcester, MA under the name of Gates Manufacturing and Clowes & Gates Manufacturing; and later in Philadelphia, PA as Gates Manufacturing, from ~1877-1909. Two are in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

1880 US Census: married to Mary "T."; lived at 37 Edward St., Worcester, MA; he "43" she 33, both born MA; children Flora 4 yrs, George, 1 mo.

14 Herman Krause.  Born on Jan 21, 1854 in Stettin, Pomerania, Germany. [12], [42] Immigrated on Apr 19, 1881 to New York City. [17] arrived on the ship Habsburg from Bremen: Herman, 27; Hehwe [Helena], 23; Willi, 4 mo. Immigrated on Jun 17, 1885 to New York City. [17] arrived on the ship Rhaetia from Hamburg: Helene, 27; Willi, 4; Emma, 3; Meta, 11 mo. [Herman apparently not with them.]. Immigrated on Jul 6, 1885 to New York City. [17] arrived on the ship Fulda from Bremen: Herman Kruse, 32, workman [This is the only person close to "Herman Krause" arriving during this time period.]. Herman died in Darby, PA on May 23, 1930; he was 76. Occupation: Employed In The "Gas Plant.". [43]

The church book for Sankt Jacobi, Stettin, Pommern contains an entry for the birth/bapt. of one Carl Friedrich Herman Krause, b. Jan 28, 1854 at 2 AM, bap. Feb 19, 1854, father: Carl Friedrich Krause (arbeitsmann-Küpfermühle), mother: Christine Sophie Preÿn. Could this be Herman Krause of Chester, PA?

From Castle Garden web site: Hermann, 27, Helena (misspelled Hehwe), 23, and Willi, 3 months, arrived in New York City on April 19, 1881 from Bremen on the "Habsburg." Somewhere between then and 1884 they returned to Germany for a while. On June 17, 1885, the arrival of Helene (sic), Willi, Emma, and Meta in New York on the Rhaetia, from Hamburg is recorded. [44] Herman must have returned separately.

In 1900 and 1910 Herman and Helena Hardt Krause lived at 115 Edwards St. in Chester, next door to Joseph and Olga Hardt Fleitz at 113. Helena and Olga were sisters. Their half sister Martha was married to Lewis Pfaff; they lived at 219 [looks like] Wilson St. in 1910 (couldn't find in 1900 or 1920). [45], [46]

Herman lived in Darby in 1920 with Frederick and Emma Krause Radue at 113 S. 5th St. [11]

On Jun 11, 1879 when Herman was 25, he married Helena Hardt, in Germany. [12]
