Husband's Notes
James Guthrie, son of James Guthrie, Jr., was educated in Dickinson College of Carlisle, Pa., was called to the pastorate of Tyrone and Laurel Hill, rural churches in Fayette Co., Pa., and was for many years a member of the Old Redstone Presbytery. He was a zealous and forceful minister and an influential citizen.
Rev. James Guthgrie married (1) Martha Torrence, daughter od Col. Joseph Torrence, of Dunbar Township, Fayette Co., Pa. She died prior to 1839. He married (2) Elizabeth ----, who survived him at his death Aug. 24, 1850, which took place at his home in New Haven, Fayette Co., Pa.
