     An article appeared in the August 13, 1959 Van Nuys News on the occasion of her 99th birthday. The article stated:
A wheelchair is something to give the dog a ride in seems to be the philosophy of Priscilla Jane Linkogel, mother of eight, grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of eleven.
Mrs. Linkogel on Tuesday will celebrate her 99th birthday at the home she shares with daughter Mrs. Hazel M. Padgel and granddaughter Bonnie 16, at 13740 Valerio St., Van Nuys.
The celebrant has had her share of bums and bruises - including a broken hip a few years ago when she tripped during a jaunt along the sidewalk and a bout with pneumonia last year when the doctors gave little hope for her recovery - but she's ready to try something new like flying or taking trip with fellow rock hounds into almost any terrain.
Mrs. Linkogel is the oldest member of both the Los Angeles and Valley associations of mineralogy, having been active in rock hunting some 30 years.

Her last outing to Green Horn Mountain two years ago provided her with an excellent specimen of pink fluorite to add to her already expansive collection.
Not too long before her outing with the rock hounds, Mrs. Linkogel had broken her hip and was confined to a wheelchair but when she discovered her toy terrier Timmie like to ride in it she soon was pushing him instead of riding herself.
Timmie is continually at her side whether she is working on her rock, coin, stamp or conchology collections or reminiscing over her childhood when she and her folks went by covered wagon to St. Louis, Mo., or the fun she had at 75 when she took oil painting instruction at night school in Glendale
Canvases Exhibited
Mrs. Padgel has several of her mother's landscapes framed in the Valerio St. home - some of these were displayed at Glendale Art Association exhibits.
Mrs. Linkogel has another daughter in Van Nuys, Mrs. E. E. Gossrau, who with her family is at Lake Tahoe for the summer. For the past two years the honoree has joined the Gossraus at the lake during their summer stays.
The rest of the family now living are a daughter Mrs. Pearl G. Kurran, a piano teacher in Hollywood; Mrs. Louise R. Linkogle, daughter-in-law, who lives in Glendale, and her son Leo Linkogel, in government work in Costa Rica
Fun with Music
The entire family is musically inclined with Mrs. Linkogel herself playing both the organ and violin. Vocally she also is proficient and the Padgels often tape the fun they have 'round the piano.
Granddaughter Bonnie, a student at Van Nuys High School who celebrated 40 of her own friends on the ending of summer classes a a swim party Friday shares her grandmother's enthusiasm for music and rocks-she plays the piano well and has quite a collection as a member of the "Pebble Puppies" - rock hounds, junior grade.
Mrs. Linkogel came to the west coast from Alton, Ill., and St. Louis in 1918 settling in Glendale the following year. She came to Van Nuys in 1946, keeping house for herself until she broke her hip.
Among those on hand at today's poolside open house will be many friends from Central Christian Church where she is an active member.⁹
     She celebrated her 99th birthday on September 6, 1959 in San Francisco along with her daugthter Mrs. Hazel M. Padgel and granddaughter Bonnie, dropping a postal from Top of the Mark located on the 19th floor of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel, the world renowned sky-lounge affords a near 360 degree vista of San Francisco including views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, and Alcatraz.¹⁰
     Priscilla died on 13 July 1961 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, at age 100.¹¹ Her obituary was published in the Valley News on 16 July 1961 at Van Nuys, Los Angeles County, California.¹² Her obituary stated:

     John A. Linkogel, Superintendent of the Infirmary of Calhoun County, is the subject of our present sketch, and is a gentleman who ranks among the most highly respected citizens in his county. Mr. Linkogel was born in Hanover, Germany, November 1, 1830. He attended school in his native country and was busily employed through the vacations and the long winter evenings when he would spin flax. At the age of fourteen, he came with his parents to America, but remembers distinctly every incident connected with his life in the old country and the trip to the new home. At the age of sixteen, he commenced to learn the blacksmith's trade, serving three years in St. Charles, Mo. He worked there until 1852, at which time, he removed to Grafton, Jersey County, Ill., where he opened a shop and continued to work at his trade in Grafton and Otterville until the year 1862.
Mr. Linkogel enlisted in the civil war in 1862, joining Company C, Fourteenth Illinois Cavalry, and served in Kentucky and Tennessee where his regiment acted with Gen. Morgan's forces. He served up to May 30, 1863, at which date, he was honorably discharged owing to physical disabilities. He at once returned to Jersey County and resumed his businness in Otterville for a time. He afterwards removed to Grafton, remaining there three years and then returned to Otterville. In 1880, he removed to Hardin. He worked at his trade until 1886, at which time he was elected Superintendent of the County Infirmary.
He fills this position most creditably both to himself and others and has gained a vast amount of influence in this community by his regular habits and progressive spirit.
Our subject was married in 1852 to Mrs. Elizabeth Lehmkuhl, whose birth occured in Missouri. Their marriage has been blesssed with nine children. Viz: Francis M., Allie, John T., Joseph E., James A., Emil E., Eva L., Clarence and Annie. Allie and Annie are deceased. Mr. Linkogel is a member of Calhoun Post No. 448, G.A.R., and also of Calhoun Lodge No. 792, A.F.& A.M.
Our subject's father, Francis Linkogel, was born in Hanover, Germany, and was a tailor by trade. He persued this occupation untill 1844, at which time, he formed a colony and emigrated to America, bringing his wife and three of his four children with him. They set sail from Bremen in October and landed at New Orleans. Texas was the destination the colony had in view, consequently they embarked on a steamer and sailed up the Mississippi and Red Rivers as far as Alexandria. At that point, they were detained on account of low water. The colony selected three members, of which our subject's father was one, to proceed with the trip in order to ascertain the local facilities and desirability of Texas. Two of the number did not like the Lone Star State, so Francis Linkogel and others of the party went to St. Louis and then to St. Charles County, Mo. He bought a tract of land there with the intention of farming, but died in one year after settling on his new property. His widow continued to reside there with her children up to the time of her death. She was the mother of four children. Viz: Joseph, John A., Theresa and Frank.
Nearly every known country has contributed to the population of the United States, and bringing with them habits of industry and activity as a rule they make valuable citizens. Germany has at all times been noted for the industry and strength of character of her citizens, and Mr. Linkogel has inherited the habits of perserverance and consistency that are sure to win success in the long run whatever obstacles may intervene between the beginning and the desired goal. Mrs. Linkogel had one child by her former husband, William II, who resides in Jersey County, Ill.⁵ John A. Linkogle was also known as Engelbert Anton Johannes.³ Conflicting evidence placed his birth on November 1, 1831 in Groß Giesen, Germany (Bauerschaper files).³      John A. Linkogle, son of Francis Joseph "Frank" Linkogle and Theresia Buschen, was born on 1 November 1831 in Groß Giesen, Hanover, Germany.^1,6,3
     John A. Linkogle immigrated circa 1844 to St. Charles County, Missouri, traveling Germany.³
     In 1846 he began a three year apprenticeship as a blacksmith.³
     He lived with his parent, Theresia, in August 1850 at district 78 in St. Charles County, Missouri.⁷

He was identified as a 28-year-old male born in Germany, he owned real estate valued at $225.00 and personal property valued at $180.00. Enumerated with him were: his wife, Mary Elizabeth, his sons John Thomas, Francis M., William H. and Joseph Edgar, his daughter Mary Allie.¹
