Roy died on 22 November 1908 at Hotel Maries in Vienna, Maries County, Missouri, at age 24.1,3 His obituary was published in the The Maries County Gazette on 27 November 1908.3 His obituary stated:
Roy Copeland Dead
Roy Copeland, who was injured by a fall from his horse a week ago last Tuesday, died Sunday last about 2 o'clock p. m. at the Hotel Maries, where he was taken the night of the accident. The remains were laid to rest in the vienna cemetery the following day, the funeral services being held in the M. E. Church and the sermon being preached by Rev. Polston, a large number of bereaved relatives and sorrowing friends being present.
On Saturday last Roy was operated on by Doctors Jose and Yarnell of this place and Dr. Buechler of Freeburg. The operation revealed the fact that the entire frontal bones had been disarticulated from its connection with its fellow bones, and that the destruction to the brain was very great. The right temple had been crushed and fragments of bone, which had penetrated the brain, were removed.
With very slight hopes of relieving him the surgeons proceeded with their work; but it was evident that nothing could avail, and at 2 p.m. Sunday he passed away.
Roy Copeland was a nice young fellow, honest and upright, and was getting a good start in life. He was 24 years of age last August, and had been married but a couple of years, his youngest child being but ten days old when the accident happed which cost his life. His young wife, his parents and brothers and sisters have the sympathy of everyone in their great sorrow. Had Roy been permitted to live hye would have made a useful citizen; but Providence saw fit to cut him off in his youth, and it is best that we bow in humble submission to the will of Him who doeth all things well and who will look after the widow and the fatherless ones and comfort them in their sorrow

3
His funeral service was held on 23 November 1908 at M. E. Church, Vienna, Maries County, Missouri,3 and he was buried in Vienna Public Cemetery in Vienna, Maries County, Missouri.1,3
