     James married Mary Emeline Powers, daughter of Reverend John Thompson Powers and Elizabeth Ferrier, circa 1855.¹
     James H. Rowden appeared on the 1890 property assessment list of Maries County, Missouri. The property covered was described as 3 horses, 4 mules, 17 cattle, 18 sheep, 15 hogs and $78 of other property. The property was valued at $530.00. The tax amount was $1.59 for state taxes and $2.65 for county taxes.³ His wife, Mary Emeline Powers, died on 20 January 1900 at age 60.^4,1
     James died on 5 March 1914 at Miller Township in Maries County, Missouri, at age 84, Doctor Adolphus J. Crider was the attending physician, Robert H. Rowden was the informant on the death certificate.^1,2 His cause of death was hemorahage of lungs, pulmonary tuberculosis.²
     The undertaker who handled his arrangements was in Tavern, Maries County, Missouri.² James H. Rowden was buried on 6 March 1914 in Dodds Cemetery in Maries County, Missouri.²
