The superintendent is making diligent inquiry about the man today, but fins nobody who remembers hime under that name at least."3,4

          John J. Baltes was born in 1868 in Germany.2
     John J. Baltes immigrated in 1883 to Pennsylvania traveling Germany.2
     John married Catherine "Minnie" Haas, daughter of Simon Haas and Frances Racht, on 3 May 1892 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.1,3,4 In a lawsuit in October 1894 in the Superior Court, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, Simon Haas was sued by John J. Baltes for $200 on work and labor. W. & E. Leonard were the attorneys for the plaintiff.5
     In June 1895, John and Henry Honeck, stonemasons put in the foundation for a new air compressor and accumulator at the Wabash Railroad shops in Ft. Wayne.6 In a lawsuit on 6 January 1898 John J. Baltes On January 6, 1898 Justice Bullerman heard the case of the state against Paul Koehler, who was charged with assault and battery. It seem that Koehler and John had some difficulty and met in a saloon. It was alleged that Koehler knocked John down with a straight arm blow in the eye. The justice assessed a nominal fine.7

     John was awarded the contract for the brick and stone work for the new academy of St. Patrick's parish on May 1, 1901 with a bid of $1,365.11
     On May 23, 1904, John's bid for brick work on the Rice theater on East Berry street in Ft. Wayne was accepted and he was awarded the contract for the work which was to begin the next day.12 In a lawsuit in January 1912 John J. Baltes was sued by Charles F. Sautbine for $2,500 in damages. He claimed he received iinjuries when a brick was dropped on his head in the constrution of the addition to Sacred Heart academy.13

     Catholic Cemetery (Ft Wayne, IN) is located at 3500 Lake Ave in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.
     Years ago, the original Catholic Cemetery was on Cathedral Square. There arose a need for a larger cemetery. The next cemetery was located on Swinney Ave. After only 29 years the need arose for another larger location. In 1872, Bishop Dwenger purchased 120 acres, one mile outside the city limits of Fort Wayne. The bodies have been removed from the other twp cemeteries into the present location. The cemetery was then opened for interments in 1873.1

Mrs. Monica Houser, 59, of 301 West Leith street, died at 3 a. m. Sunday at the Lutheran hospital. She had been ill several weeks. She was a lifelong resident of this county. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and of the Rosary Society. Survivors include the husband, Clement; three sons, Leo of this city, Pvt. Joseph C. with the army and C/MMM Raymond, in the navy; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Kell and Mrs Edgar Nelson of this city; two brothers, George and John Schimmell, and two sisters; Mrs. James Crowe of this city and Mrs. Theodore Ortlieb, Milwaukee, Wis., and six grandchildren. The body was removed to the Mungovan & Sons mortuary. It will be taken to the residence today and friends may call there after 7 p. m. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Also surviving are two sons, Dean Edward, Guam, and Anthony Edward at home; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Dirig, Fort Wayne; three brothers, Leo J. and Raymond J., Fort Wayne, and Joseph, Palm Springs Shores, Fla; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Keller and Mrs. Edger Nelson, Fort Wayne; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mungovan & Sons Mortuary, Calhoun St., and at 10 a.m. in Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Msgr. William M. Faber officiating. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Rosary services will be there at 8 p.m.

     Theodore Arthur Houser was listed in Catherine Racht's obituary as surviving.8 Theodore Arthur Houser was employed by S. F. Bowser & Company at corner of Creighton and Browser, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, in 1918 as a machinist.2
     Agnes and Theodore Arthur Houser lived from 1918 to 1925 at 322 Killea Avenue in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. Residing with them were, their children John.9,6,2 Theodore Arthur Houser registered for the draft for World War I on 12 September 1918 at draft board 3, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, he was listed as having a medium build and height, light gray eyes and black hair.2
     Theodore is a head of household on the 1920 U. S. Census for Indiana he was listed as a 36-year-old male born in Indiana. His father was born in Indiana and his mother in Germany. He was employed as a machinist with a railroad. Enumerated with him were: his wife, Agnes, his sons John J..6 Theodore Arthur Houser was employed by Horton Mfg Company in 1925 a foreman.9 He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and Modern Woodmen of America .1
     Theodore died on 27 November 1939 at Berghoff Brewery in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, at age 57 of a heart attack while at work. Investigated by Dr. Walter Kruse, Allen county coroner.1 His obituary was published in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette Newspaper on 28 November 1939.1 His obituary stated:
Brewery Worker Dies Suddenly - Theodore A. Houser, 54, an employe of the Berghoff Brewery, died suddenly at 3:20 Monday afternoon while working at the Berghoff plant. Death was due to a heart attack, according to Dr. Walter Kruse, Allen county coroner, who investigated. The deceased resided at 322 Killea avenue. born at Hoagland, he had resided here since 1909. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, the Holy Name Society and Modern Woodmen of America. Survivors include the widow, Agnes; two sons, John J. and Louis Houser of this city; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Klingenberger and Mrs. Agnes Carteaux of this city and Mrs. Anna Kennerk of New Haven, and two brothers, Charles and Clement Houser of Fort Wayne. The body was removed to Mungoven & Sons' mortuary. Funeral services will be arranged later

     Catherine Racht and Anna Rocht were either sisters or Catherine may have been the mother of Anna.2      Catherine Racht, daughter of Joseph A. Racht and Frances A. Bastes, was born on 10 April 1851 in Germany.1
     Catherine (her first marriage)married Joseph Houser (his second marriage) , son of Alois Hauser and Frances Theresia Beriche, in 1874 at Hoagland, Allen County, Indiana.1
     Catherine and Joseph Houser lived in August 1890 in Indiana. Residing with them were.3
     Catherine and Joseph were visited by Katie Haas and Annie Racht circa 1 August 1890 while there they attended a festival given by the Hoagland band. Annie was the winner of a $5.00 cake. The following evening they gave an ice cream party in honor of their guests.3
     Catherine Racht purchased propertyh described as 59x176 feet of Barnett's out lot 4 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, in June 1897 from Joseph Racht.4
     Catherine died on 1 July 1915 at 318 Killea Avenue in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, at age 64.1,5 Her cause of death was dropsy.5 Her obituary was published in the Ft. Wayne News Newspaper on 2 July 1915.5 Her obituary stated:
Mrs. Catherine Houser, 64 years of age, died yesterday at her home, 318 Killea avenue, after an extended illness due to dropsy. Mrs. Houser was reared in Fort Wayne, her parents coming to this country from German sixty-three years ago. Mrs. Houser was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic church and was a member of the Rosary society and the Christian Mothers' society of that congregation.
     Surviving relatives include the husband, Joseph Houser; six children, Theodore, Charles, Clement, Mrs. Clara Gebhardt, Mrs. Agnes Carteaux and Mrs. Anna Kenner, all of this city; two step daughters, Mrs. Barbara Minnich and Mrs. Lizzie Schick, both of this city; one brother, Nicholas Racht; one sister, Mrs. Frances Sigg; twenty-six grandchildren and one great-grandchild

     Clara and Charles Lewis Houser lived in 1942 at 333 West Leith Street in Indiana. Residing with them were.2 Charles Lewis Houser was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana .2
     Charles died on 28 May 1942 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, at age 58 he had been a patient at the hospital for the last five weeks and have been in ill health for a year.2 His obituary was published in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette Newspaper on 29 May 1942.2 His obituary stated:
Charles Lewis Houser, 58, of 333 West Leith street, died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He had been a patient at the hospital for the last five weeks. Mr. Houser, for 38 years an employe of the General Electric company here as a machinist, retired a year ago, due to ill health. He was born in Hoagland and in 1906 was married in Decatur to Miss Clara Weber of Decatur. The widow survives. Also surviving are three sons, Lawrence of New York city, Earl of Fort Wayne and Bernard of Decatur; three daughters, Agnes of this city and Clara Marie and Rosella, both at home; one brother, Clem, Fort Wayne; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Carteaux and Mrs. Elizabeth Clingenberg, both of this city, and Mrs. Anna Kennerk, New Haven, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Houser was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The body was taken to the Black funeral home at Decatur, will be returned to the residence today. Friends may call after7 o'clock tonight. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a. m. Monday at St. Patrick's church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. Lawrence Monahan officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery

     His wake was held on 29 May 1942 at 333 West Leith Street, Indiana, the body, taken to the Black funeral home at Decatur was returned to the residence for visitation.2
     His funeral service was held on 1 June 1942 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, the service was performed by Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. Lawrence Monahan.2 Charles Lewis Houser was buried on 1 June 1942 in Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, in section A, lot 265.2,12
