Because his parents owned a nice home in Germany which he didn't want to induce them to leave without one as good or better here, he refrained from writing very encouraging letters to the old folks however they learned of his success here from other sources and followed him here. Under the circumstances Frederick made the best provision possible for them, obtaining employment for his brothers and purchasing the farm at Pleasant Ridge for the maintenance of his parents and sisters. He stayed on the farm for 12 years.1,2 He declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States listed in book 6, page 423 in 1857 at Circuit Clerk, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois.6 He was naturalized in October 1860 at the Circuit Clerk in Illinois.      In December 1896, an article in the Edwardsville Intelligencer newspaper stated "Frederick Bohm, a prominent farmer west of the city, has invested in city property and will become a resident of the city. He purchased from Terry & Cole two lots on St. Louis street, west of M. B. Sherman's property. The lots have a frontage of 100 feet and are 160 feet deep. The consideration was $1000 which is considered low. A concession was made in view of the fact that the purchaser will at once erect a handsome residence. Plans are being made for an eight-room house, with modern conveniences, and construction will be commenced at once if weather permits.10
Frederick died in 1906 in Madison County, Illinois.1 He was buried in 1906 in Woodlawn Cemetery in Madison County, Illinois.11
On June 1, 1935, the Bohm School District announced plans to build a new school to replace the one that had been in use for more than 60 years. The building originally stood at the intersection of Poag and Bohm roads but had been moved years earlier. William H. Bohm, Edwardsville township farmer and widely known in public affairs for years, died Thursday morning at 5:20 o'clock from complications, at Park-Lane Memorial in St. Louis, where he was taken Wednesday morning. He was about the place Tuesday and was taken sick that night. His activeness of the past several days did not indicate an early death. During the night he had s sinking spell and relatives were notified the end was near. Bohm had lived in the vicinity of Edwardsville. for 75 years.
Bohm was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Bohm, and his father was born in Prussia in 1816. Frederick Bohm came to this country and landed at New Orleans. He worked on a plantation and in a U. S. Arsenal for a number of years before coming to Madison county.
Bohm was born on a farm at Pleasant Ridge, west of Maryville, on July 11, 1857, and had attained the age of 86 years, 2 months and 13 days. He was 11 years old when his father's family located near Edwardsville. He received his early education at the district school He was confirmed by Rev. W. F. Fiegenbaum of the Immanuel M. E. Church.
At an early age Bohm began acquiring farm land and owned more that 1000 acres at the time of his death. On February 5, 1885 he was married to Miss Emma H. C. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian P. Smith, the ceremony being performed by Rev. William Wilkening, paster of Immanuel Methodist Church. The Bohm home is located on Poag Road, about three miles west of Edwardsville and there he engaged in general farming, fattening cattle for market, and dealt in horses and mules. Twenty-five years ago, hundreds of bushels of wheat were produced on his farms. In later years, he reduced activities in general farming
About 35 years ago, he acquired the northeast corner of Main and Vandalia streets, then occupied by unsightly frame buildings. At that time the city was badly in need of offices and store rooms and Bohm saw an opportunity to engage in a real estate transaction. The plans provided for several store rooms on the ground floor, offices on the second, and an entertainment hall on the third. Some of the tenants have been in the building for years.
Bohm began his interest in public life in becoming a director of the Bohm school district. It was an office he held for many years. In more recent years, he served three terms as supervisor of Edwardsville township, and on April 7, 1914, when the township was normally Democratic by 250 votes he was elected on a Republican tick by 425 majority.
Bohm took his greatest interest as a member of the public buildings committee while serving on the Board of Supervisors. He began the proceedings which resulted in erection of the present court house. On February 10, 1913, he presented a resolution for remodeling the old building to provide additional offices. The plan was discussed and later in the day, Supervisor F. B. Ownes, then of Ft. Russell township, offered another to provide for a committee to work out plans for a new building.
While not generally known, Bohm was the benefactor of many residents of Edwardsville in former years. He provided financial assistance for many needy individuals and families in former years.
Besides his widow, seven children survive, and tw3o daughters and two sons preceded him to the grave. The children are: Alvin C. Bohm, Edwardsville; Dr. Wilbur H. Bohm, Pullman, Wash; Elmer E. Bohm, Edwardsville; Mrs. Lydia F. Kriege, Edwardsville; Miss Dora Bohm and Clarence W. Bohm at home, and Mrs. Frances Wentz, Edwardsville. Irma and Bertha Bohm and Edward and Louis Bohm are the dead children. Seven grandchildren also survive. One brother, Louis F. Bohm, and a sister, Mrs. Sophia M. Stullken, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30, at the Schneider Funeral Home, where the body may be viewed after Friday noon.

4 His obituary was published in the Edwardsville Intelligencer Newspaper on 28 September 1943.11 His obituary stated:
