Dear Aunt Margaret
I received your letter some time ago and was very glad to hear from you. I think you must have almost forgotten me, because you had not written for such a long time.
Dad got back from his hunting trip safe. He was camping by himself most of the time. The man who usually camped with him was working. He did not get anything. It rained and snowed most of the time he was down there.
I had to take two Examinations Algebra and History and passed. I am taking geometry History, English and Cooking. Earl doesn't go to school anymore, he is driving the milk wagon. Margaret is still going to school and is taking piano lessons.
Elmer is working in the green house. Henry and Norman are still going to school
Little Henry gets into many fights.
Papa was disappointed that he could not hear you over the phone.
I think Aunt Kate is running a boarding house in Saint Louis. She has not bee very well.
Aunt Mayme and Uncle George were out Tuesday night Aunt Mayme looks real well now.
They are staying with his people.
She said you had not written to her since grandpa died and she feels real bad about it.
A week ago today 3 places burnt on Main street. The one place was where Dad used to have his shop.
We were so glad to hear that you and uncle Tom were planning to visit in Feb.
If you come write.
I guess I will close for this time so Dad wont be home until late. He went into a smoke that is being given the Music Union.
From your loving niece Francis - Mother and dad send their best regards - Write Soon on 29 January 1917 at Missouri.5

Points depended on length, difficulty and location of service. On reaching 100 points, they were sent home. Mabel and Joseph were awaiting a telegram that Richard had been discharged and was in New York because he was so close to his 100 points. Instead a telegram came notifying them of his death. “Shoe Workers Quit: May Affect 30,000” Parade on the Streets
Nearly 3000 shoeworkers paraded the streets in a radius of three blocks of the Hamilton-Brown factory at Twenty-first and Locust streets yesterday. Hundreds of girls ran from the factories screaming and waving their hands in delight. About 11:30 a. m. the crowd became so large and boisterous that a riot call was sent in from Twenty-first and Locust streets. The girls gave the policemen who endeavored to keep them moving more trouble than the men and boys, who kept quiet for fear of arrest.
The crowd started east on Chestnut Street and a policeman, seeing them coming and thinking they would start trouble at the Wertheimer-Swarts Shoe Company, sent in a riot call from Nineteenth and Chestnut streets. The crowd passed the factory and went north on Nineteenth street and back to Twenty-first and Locust.
