Chapter 1

William Blanton
of

Upton-Upon-Severn, England &

Boston, 1638

There has been an ongoing suspicion by researchers of the Blanton family and Blanding family that the two families are interrelated. There is the possibility that this is entirely true; that the Blanding family is related to William Blantine/Blanton(1) who was in Boston in the year 1638. There is documented evidence that William (1) of Boston had a son named William (2) Blantine/Blanton as he is named in his father's Will.  Another reliable source for William (2) Blantine/Blanton is the recently found Suffolk County, Massachusetts Probate Docket Number 2640 that lists 5 minor children of William Blantine(2) by the surname of BLANTINE: Daniel, Samuel, Obadiah, John, and Noah.  This eradicates doubt regarding the second and third generations descending from William (1) Blanton of Suffolk County, Massachusetts. This Probate Docket listed three documents pertaining to the guardianship of William (2) Blantine's children: a Guardianship Bond, Letters of Guardianship for Daniel, Samuel, and Obadiah Blantine, and Letters of Guardianship for John and Noah Blantine. One can ascertain from these probate papers that William (2) at the time of his death was named BLANTINE.  Jenelle Blanton-Wilcox obtained copies of these documents which may be viewed by clicking on the names of the documents listed above.
