Understanding the above table: 

The figures across the top e.g., DYS 393 represent the individual markers tested. Underneath this against each name are a row of numbers. These represent repetitions of a protein group. Taking the first column and row for David we see DYS 393/13. That is at marker DYS 393 David has a set of proteins which are repeated 13 times. It is these repetitions which alter due to mutations. Either losing or gaining a protein group. In the above I've used David's marker results as a baseline. A deviation of one repetition is indicated in red, of two in yellow & three or more in blue.

To determine a relationship an individuals results are tested marker to marker. The more markers which differ, or the greater the difference in repetitions, the less chance of a relationship. The more markers tested the more sensitive the result to a) confirm a relationship and b) pin down the time frame. A 37 marker test is the gold standard. FTDNA state that a 37:37 match indicates a 100% probability of being related within 24 generations or 600 yrs. Recently a 67 marker test has been introduced. This refines the test eliminating doubts when connections are distant and increasing the accuracy at measuring TMRCA.

Different companies use different marker values and where the above records have markers from SMGF I've amended the results to FTDNA values ie for DYS 452 I've added 19 & for DYS 463 I've added 2.
