Atkinson Family - Group One:

The following are the markers for the Atkinson Study participants. I've tried to group them into 'proposed', families and where their is more than one member used the top row as a base result beneath which I've indicated where markers differ from this base ie red for one repetition, blue for two & yellow for three.

*  Companies may record repetitions slightly differently. For example: Relative Genetics record GATA H4 for Chris as 12 but FTDNA record Joe at this marker as 10 yet they match on this marker. At first glance this would indicate (on this marker) a genetic difference of 2. However, this has to be adjusted between companies for a true comparison by subtracting 1 for Chris or adding 1 for Joseph. Likewise for DYS 452 one has to add 19 to SMGF or RG results to match FTDNA, and DYS 463 one adds 2 - To enable these markers to be entered on Y Search [run by FTDNA] I have amended the above records to FTDNA standards on all these 3 markers. 

* the green print indicates the individual's haplogroup has been determined via SNP testing. http://www.familytreedna.com/deepclade.html  An Email (24th Nov '08) from Dr Thomas Krahn of FTDNA indicates:

"........... never before published SNP has been found independently in two participants of your ATKINSON surname project. This SNP is located at position ChrY:13329340 and was labeled as L6. The SNP was found by just reviewing your sequencing traces from your Deep Clade tests for the marker P107.....Since this L6 SNP is found in no other sample than those two we consider this as a private SNP on the family level. The SNP will be only useful for R-U106 persons with the surname Atkinson (or similar) or with persons with a nearly identical Y-STR haplotype. However, if this SNP turns out to be positive in another sample, this new person is almost certainly related to your family."
