He took up the little blacksmith shop on the corner, opposite the White Lion Inn and worked their until he died aged 80, in 1843. It is possible William did his apprenticeship either in Kirkby Malham or Arncliffe, have not been able to find any details on that yet. His son took over the business after he died.
