Nails were hand made by blacksmiths, farmers and others.
Anyone had a small forge could make nails.
Eventually machines took over and we now buy them at our local shops.

FARRANT John Blacksmith 1799: John Farrant was born in 1799 in Ely. He is shown as a blacksmith in Littleport Cambridgeshire on the 1841 to 1871 census. In 1881 he is in Rotherhithe Surrey, also listed as a blacksmith. John is my Great Great Grandfather. Contact Dorothy by.
