Anyone had a small forge could make nails.
Eventually machines took over and we now buy them at our local shops.

COLE	John	Blacksmith	1835: John Cole, blacksmith. Born about 1835 in Witchford, Cambridgeshire, England. Married Ellen Brand in Ely June qtr 1855. He had blacksmith premises in Ely and died post 1891C. There is a connection with Charles Joselyn who was licensee of the Peacock Inn in Ely. More information sought. Contact Joan by
FARRANT	John	Blacksmith	1799: John Farrant was born in 1799 in Ely. He is shown as a blacksmith in Littleport Cambridgeshire on the 1841 to 1871 census. In 1881 he is in Rotherhithe Surrey, also listed as a blacksmith. John is my Great Great Grandfather. Contact Dorothy by.
