HOPES Silas Blacksmith 1857: Silas Hopes, blacksmith. Born circa 1857 in Goucestershire. Died:1913. Silas & his father Silas Simon Hopes were both blacksmiths in the St George area of Bristol. 1871 Census records him aged 14yrs, living in Fire Engine Lane, St George and working as a "striker", presumably for his father. HOPES Silas Simon Blacksmith 1835: Silas Simon Hopes, blacksmith. Born circa1835 in Gloucestershire. Died:1908. The 1861 census shows they were living at 113 Chalks Lane, St. Georges, West Gloucestershire and lists Simon as 26yrs; wife Jane 23yrs. Children: Silas 4yrs, Charles, 2yrs, Lily 8months infant plus mother-in-Law Charlotte Smith, 43yrs,widow. 1871 Census records him living in Fire Engine Lane, St George. Silas Simon Hopes & his son Silas were both blacksmiths in the St George area of Bristol. Not sure of the exact addresses or whether they worked together or in separate premises. Contact Val by
