I have just heard from Kimberley Powell at About.com that this poem was written by Linda Ellis and requires permission for use.  My source - the public library - gave wrong information about the "unknown" author.  My apologies to the author -- it is a beautiful piece of work and she deserves credit!  She has wonderful poetry at her site,  Linda's Lyrics.
