Vale PEARL aka Poil WILSON 12 Dec 2000
To the lady who has been in the soc.genealogy.australia+nz / GENANZ forum for ever and has been giving cheek and help for all that time. Thanks for the good times. We'll miss you!
With Patticake, your partner in crime and doublespeak, thank you for both my epithet and my bird [wherever it came from] even though it is not a good likeness. |

GENANZ at RootsWeb
Genealogy in Australia and New Zealand
The homepage for the newsgroup SOC.GENEALOGY.AUSTRALIA+NZ
and the mailing list GENANZ-L
GENANZ / soc.genealogy.australia+nz - the first and biggest internet forum for exclusively talking about Australian and New Zealand genealogy |
GENANZ started as the name of the mailing list and digest list for the
discussion of genealogy and family history of people of Australia and New
Zealand. This mailing list is partnered to the newsgroup soc.genealogy.australia+nz.
You can read our mail either via your newsreader or via your email. Read
on for more information.
Our History
The newsgroup started in October 1995, the mailing list (GENANZ-L) started
in October 1996 and due to demand the digest (GENANZ-D) started in February
1997, quickly followed by a non-MIME digest (GENANZ-NMD) and a daily index
form (GENANZ-I). The lists are hosted by our wonderful friends here at
RootsWeb. If you want to read more
about the newsgroup and mailing list read the guidelines
/ FAQ. 1 January 2000

Archives and searches
Searchable GENANZ mailing list archives - the full search access to the mailing list
Threaded GENANZ archives - later posts, available chronologically or subject threaded
GENANZ search page and hopefully quick and ready access to the messages
Snippets of interest or the NOW questions
Name indexes
All of these snippets and indexes have been contributed by you, the readers.
So if you think that you have some list that you think is worth adding
to these web pages please get in touch. Lists, databases, or whatever.
You don't have to find the space we will host them here at GENANZ at
RootsWeb.
Boss Cocky's Memorabilia
There are some dedicated and vociferous correspondents at GENANZ.
One of them has named the listowner 'Boss Hogg' or her Australian version
'Boss Cocky'. Another facetiously suggested the Boss Hogg Memorabilia
Room.
Well this, is that listowner's revenge. What follows is some
classic postings demonstrating some moments of New Zealander and Australian
humour at its best and worst.
Alternatively called 'Outrageously off topic but oh so funny'

The GenWebs
At RootsWeb
- Mailing lists - more than you can poke a stick at.
- American genealogy at ROOTS-L
- FreeBMD
is a marvellous new project aimed at transcribing ALL the indexes of the
General Registry Officeof England and Wales birth, marriage and death certificates
and displaying them on the web. You all can help, follow the link
to find out more, join one of the mailing lists to either help out with
the project or just to keep up with the goings on.
- WorldConnect - upload your GEDCom file for others to peruse. It is great! You can leave an electronic post'em note to link the GEDCom to your interests, leave your URL.
- RootsWeb Surname List (RSL) - somewhere for you to leave your interests (names and locales)
- Personalised Mail - a great little tool RootsWeb has set up for sponsors. One can get delivered to their email the surname information from any of RootsWeb's information sources, (ie. mailing lists, message boards, RSL, ...). No longer the need to subscribe to all those lists in a vain hope, or no need to subscribe to that busy list for that little snippet of information. For me it is a winner! And a timesaver!
Everywhere else
Thanks to our hosts
RootsWeb, is a part of the MyFamilyInc.com group, which also includes Ancestry and MyFamily.
I ask you to step by the RootsWeb's pages and look at the facilities
on offer. There is no bigger organisation that is doing as much
for genealogy on the net. However, RootsWeb needs your support to grow
and continue to provide more and better mailing lists, databases, homepages,
chatlines, search facilities plus so much more. You can support RootsWeb by housing your data in
recognition of all the hard work volunteered by the all.
You can even get FREE web space with RootsWeb, see the press release
