Funeral services were held in Eureka Monday for
John J. Keim, 61, one of Eureka’s most prominent residents, who passed
away on March 6 after apparently suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. He had
been a prominent member of the civic club, served as mayor from 1940 to
1944, and his activity in behalf of the community hospital at Eureka was
to a considerable degree responsible for its establishment and subsequent
success. He was born in Gluecksthal, South Russia in 1884 and came to this
country with his parents in 1889, settling near Eureka. In 1904 he was
married to Minnie Kiesz, who with one daughter, Adeline, Mrs. Leland Olson,
survive him. In early years he was associated with the Keim, Kiesz and
Klein implement concern and later he joined Jacob Kiesz in the firm of
Keim and Kiesz and they operated a garage until 1935 when he retired from
active business. Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by his father,
Jacob Keim, and three sisters.
