Pioneer Succumbs At Home On Sunday, September 30

      Funeral services were held Saturday, October 6, at St. Paul’s Lutheran chruch in Java for John Goetz Sr. 75, pioneer resident of Walworth county, who passed away at his home on Sunday evening, September 30. Rev. L. A. Westenberger officiated at the services and interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery.
      Pall-bearers were: Fred C. Perman, George Naasz, Jacob Schafer, Fred Bieber, Fred E. Helm and John Job.
      Johann Goetz was born August 15, 1870 at Gluecksthal, South Russia, where he grew to young manhood. On January 31, 1895, he was united in marriage with Christine Unruh and to this couple were born eleven children, of which nine survive.
      In 1905, the deceased came to the United States with his family, settling first at Hillsview and later homesteading near Akaska. Some years later, the family moved to a farm near Java, where they resided until 1925, when they moved to Java. In 1927, his wife passed away. On July 2, 1929 he was married to Mrs. Justina Wolf of Java, who survives him. He was a well-known and respected citizen of Java, and a faithful member of St. Paul’s Luthera n church for many years.
      The deceased began to fail in health about six months ago but was able to be up and about his daily tasks until about two weeks before his death. He sought medical aid at both the Hoven and Mobridge hospitals but little could be done for him and he was brought back to his home in Java on Saturday, September 29. The following day, death relieved him from his suffering. He had reached the age of  75 years, 1 month and 15 days at the time of his passing.
      He is survived by his wife; five sons, Jacob of Sacramento, Calif.; John and Fred of Java; George of Aberdeen; and Major Carl Goetz of Kansas City, Kan., four daughters, Mrs. Barbara Lutz of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Rose Schafer of Mott, N.D., Mrs. Frieda Haux of South Shore, S.D., and Miss Kathryn Goetz R.N., of Salt Lake City, Utah; and four step-daughters, Mrs. Ed Schnaible, Mrs. J. J. Stadel, Mrs. John J. Schlepp, of near Java, and Mrs. Christ Schuh of Lodi, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
      Amoung the out-of-town relatives who were present for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Goetz and son of Sacramento, Calif., Geo. Goetz of Aberdeen, Miss Kathryn Goetz R.N., of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lutz of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Gerhart Schafer and son of Mott, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haux of South Shore, S.D., Major Carl Goetz, Kansas City, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Matt Speidel, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Hertel and Mr. and Mrs. John Hertel of McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller, Mr. and Mrs. John Benderwalt, , and Mr. and Mrs. Simon Henke of Ashley, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gutschmidt of Gackle, N.D., Mrs. Jacob Henke of Kulm, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. John Lapp, Mr. and Mrs. Kalmbach and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kulm, of the Akaska vicinity.
