John M. Buechler
September 23, 1884-May 28, 1946
Funeral services were held Monday, June 3 at St. Paul’s Lutheran church
in Bowdle for John M. Buechler, 61, who passed away May 28 after a long
ilneess. The Rev. Theo Judt officiated at the services and interment was
made in the Bowdle cemetery. Pall-bearers were Alvin Bauer, August, Alvin
and Milbert Buechler, Arthur Eisenbeisz and Arthur Himmerich.
John M. Buechler was born September
23, 1884, in Neuglueckstal, South Russia and came to this country with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Buechler in 1889, the family homesteading
northwest of Bowdle. On January 28, 1908 he married Christina Eisenbeisz
and the couple made their home on a farm near Buechler lake, north of Bowdle.
In 1917 they moved to Bowdle where he purchased the Bowdle Hardware store
in 1919, operating it until 1924 when he resold it to the former owners.
He operated various filling stations
in Bowdle until 1935 when he opened a cream station. In 1940, because of
ill health, he gave up the cream station and ran a confectionary store.
In 1944 he opened a furniture exchange but closed it out in
October 1945 because of ill health. He had been confined to bed from last
November until his death. He was a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran
church in Bowdle. He had served on the City Council and had been a member
of the Bowdle fire department for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters,
Mrs. Arthur Schumacher of Aberdeen, and Mrs. Alois Herman of Frederick;
six grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob M., and Henry M., of Bowdle; and
two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Himmerich of Java and Mrs. Jacob Gross of Bowdle.
