February 8, 1874-Feburary 27, 1941
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, at
Akaska for Christoph Huber, 67, pioneer resident of that community, who
passed away after suffering a stroke. Services were conducted by Rev. John
Hoersch, pastor of
the Congregational church at Akaska, and interment made in the Akaska
cemetery.
Christoph Huber, son of John and
Rosina Huber nee Retzer, was born February 8, 1874 in Gleuckstahl, South
Russia, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. For
several years he served as a regular soldier in the Russian army. In 1889
he came to America, making his home with his parents, 7 miles southeast
of Akaska.
In 1902 he was married to Miss Magdalena
Kurle of Java, and then moved on a homestead, six miles southeast of Akaska,
where he farmed until 1925 when the family moved to Akaska to make their
home.
He is survived by his widow; four
sons, John, David, William and Jacob; one daughter, Mrs. (Continued on
page 8) Lydia Hanson; 7 grandchildren; four brothers, Karl of Lowry, Gottlieb
of Mobridge, Jacob of Minneapolis, and Simon of Leola; and two sisters,
Mrs. Frederika Geist of Hazen, N.D., and Rosina Bieber of Lowry.
About four years ago he suffered
a slight stroke and had been in poor health since that time. On February
23, on returning home from church at noon he suffered a severe stroke from
which he did not recover, passing away the following Thursday, February
27.
