Funeral services were held at the school
auditorium at Bowdle Sunday for Christian G. Gross, 75, pioneer Bowdle
resi
dent, with the Reverends D. G. Schurr and K. Knaus officiating.
Mr. Gross passed away Friday noon May 10, at his home. He suffered a paralytic
stroke on April 30 and another on May 4. He was born June 28, 1864 at Gluecksthal,
South Russia and came to Menno, S.D., on October 1, 1884. In 1886 he homesteaded
on a farm, six miles south of Bowdle, where he resided until he moved to
Bowdle in 1915. In June 1888 he was married to Katharina Mueller at Eureka
and she passed away in January, 1909. On March 24, 1913, he was married
to Mrs. Katharina Himmerich at Java. He is survived by his widow; four
daughters, Mrs. John F. Obenauer of Aberdeen, Mrs. Fred. F. Naasz, Java,
Mrs. Otto Huber of Bowdle, and Mrs. Norman H. Robinson of Ellensburg, Wash.,
two sons, John A. Gross of Bowdle, and Christian H. Gross of Lodi, Calif.,
several step-children and a number of grandchildren.
