About the photographs: file types, quality, and what ever else I think of.

JPG are compressed files and are smaller but are subject to distortion if modified. (Modified: That means the file or picture would be opened again on your machine, perhaps to put a pretty frame around it, and then and "saved" again.) You may open any file to view it and "close" it without harm. You simply may not use the "save" command to close a JPG, again, without causing diminished quality. If I have a Tiff file available, and you can read that type of file, download that instead. The Tiff will be larger but it has better detail and no limitation on making modifications you might choose to make. If I have been sent an uncompressed file type, I will share it here with you. I also use the uncompressed file to create the highest quality JPG image, I can. If I only receive a JPG file I can't improve on it because I can't save it a second time without diminishing quality, just like I explained above. Hopefully RootsWeb will be here and you may come back another day and get a copy, again. I lock my files to avoid saving them inadvertantly.

Who's Who

Stoll, George & Ellen Sarah Hagenbuch

George John and Ellen Sarah Hagenbuch Stoll. Both were born in the Chestnut area, and were lifelong residents. William Hagenbuch, her father, had come from Schuylkill Co. Pennsylvania as a young boy, with parents (Amos and Sarah Bailey Hagenbuch) and several siblings. Three previous generations of Hagenbuchs had lived in Berks Co., Pennsylvania (North of Reading, PA) since the mid-1700s. Andreas Hagenbuch arrived in Philadelphia in 1737 from Grossgartach, Wuerttemberg. Sarah Bailey's ancestor, Johann Abraham Bohli also came from Germany about the same time. The next generation showed about 4 spellings of the name, but all seemed to end up with the "Americanized" Bailey. - Contributed by George Irwin

Matthew and Christina Volle Stoll, [George Irwin's] mother's maternal grandparents. Christina was apparently born in Kentucky, but her parents came to Springfield, IL in the early 1850s when she was a baby. Her 2 brothers and 2 sisters were born in Springfield. Matthew (Matthias) was born in Maisenbach, Wuerttemberg (now part of Germany) and came to US with his family at age 3 in 1847. Christina was his second wife.
