In many cases the questions posed below haven't yet been actively researched. The majority of my sources have been secondary; primary sources may no longer exist.

For each surname, information on locations, related surnames and key sources is provided, if available. Details concerning referenced individuals will include relationships, locations, etc. "?" indicates an unresolved question or research hypothesis.

WIEHLE / WIEHL

• My database lists many (most?) of the descendants of 4th great-grandfather Johann Georg WIEHLE (1757-1786), son of Johann Christoph WIEHL (b. 1732). There are gaps, of course.
• Locations include (for the main line) Goy, Weißdorf, Großburg, Kuschlau, (other lines) Schönfeld/ Brieg, Schüsseldorf, Prieborn, New York.
• Key sources for WIEHLE ancestors include "Wichtige Notizen", "JOCKWER Ahnenpaß" and "Kinder von Gottlob WIEHLE".
Related surnames: LANGER, SCHINKLER, KNORRECK, IGEL, BAUCH, SPRITULLE, PAUER, FUCHS, KLOSE, JOCKWER.

? Did Johann Georg WIEHLE have siblings? What was his mother's name? What was his second son's name and who are his descendants?

? Who were the parents of his wife Maria Elisabeth (b. 1755) EIFLER (or CÿFFLERN !)? Did she remarry after Johann Georg's early death? Was the EYFFLER (EVLER) family in Kampen related?

? 3rd great-grandfather Johann Gottlieb Wiehle (1784-1850), their first son, apparently retired from farming in 1836, aged only 42, and turned over the property in Kuschlau to his son. Why?

? Was great-greatgrandfather Johann Gottlob WIEHLE (1810-1893) really an only child?

? Who did Gottlob's eldest son Karl WIEHLE (1839-1893) in Schönfeld/ Brieg marry and who and where are his descendants? One son, Paul, was a businessmann ("Kaufmann") in Waldenburg, a daughter, Selma, was deaconess in Breslau and another daughter (Martha or Ida?) married a master butcher ("Meisterfleischer"). June 2004: I received an email from a descendant of Karl Wiehle; more information anticipated. Follow-up: There were 10 children (Martha, Ida, Adolf, Reinhold, Selma, Emma, Anna, Paul, Otto and Max).

? Gottlob's son Albert WIEHLE (1851-?), a tanner and furrier, emigrated to the USA in 1882 and supposedly died in New York (when?). Did he work for Hermann Stiller (1847-1893), a Strehlen-born furrier in New York City?

? Who did Gottlob's youngest son Adolf WIEHLE (1853-?) in Schüsseldorf/ Brieg marry and who and where are his descendants (3 children, names unknown)?

? Did the WIEHLE family of Weisdorf (Kreis Ohlau) have other descendants (possible surnames: KLEE, KILLE)? (reference: 1984 correspondence with Han-Helmut KNOLL)

?  How is the Hermann WIEHLE family of Karschau & Grünhartau related to us? Who and where are the descendents of his brother Friedrich WIEHLE of Groß Ellguth, Kreis Reichenbach?

? Rattwitz & Jeltsch (Kreis Ohlau) had many WIEHLE families: is there a connection?

 

HELLMICH

• At this time, my database lists only 3rd great-grandmother Anna Maria HELLMICH (1781-1851) and the names of her parents, Johann Caspar HELLMICH & Anna Rosina NEUMANN in this family.
• Johann Caspar HELLMICH must have purchased Gut 17 in Kuschlau in 1780 as that is the year that marks the beginning of continuous ownership of the farm by our family (through his daughter).

? Were there other children? Where was Johann Caspar HELLMICH born?

 

KRANICH

• At this time, my database lists only 3rd great-grandfather Gottlieb Benjamin KRANICH (1791-1846) and his parents Christian KRANICH and Maria Elisabeth STANZEL in this family.
• Great-greatgrandmother Julianne Susanne KRANICH (1817-1853) is the only known child of Gottlieb Benjamin KRANICH and Anne Rosine MAZEL. 

? Were there other children? Had the family owned the farm in Bankau/ Brieg for a long time?

? Were Daniel KRANICH (b. abt 1785), a Bauer in Zindel/ Brieg, and Gottlieb Benjamin KRANICH related? (Daniel's grandson Gottlieb SCHINDLER married Gottlieb's granddaughter Bertha WIEHLE).

 

MAZEL

• At this time, my database lists only 3rd great-grandmother Anne Rosine MAZEL (1797-1858) and her parents Christian MAZEL and Maria Elisabeth SEIDEL in this family.

? Were there other children? Had the family owned the farm in Bankau/ Brieg for a long time?

 

WINKLER

• My database lists some of the descendants of 4th great-grandparents Johann Friedrich WINKLER (b. 1747) and Johanne Eleonore TRAUTMANN (1750-1827). Primary locations: Striege, Grünhartau.
• Key sources for WINKLER ancestors and relatives are "Chronik Familie WINKLER",  "WINKLER Ahnentafel", "Unser Dorf Grünhartau" and " Denkschrift".
• Related surnames: RUDOLPH, KLOSE, PASCHKE, SCHÖNTHIER.

? 3rd great-grandfather Johann Friedrich WINKLER (1781-1868) was the fourth son of his parents. What were the names of his older brothers and what happened to them? Did they marry and have children?

? His younger brother Karl Wilhelm WINKLER (b. abt 1783) married and had at least 2 children. Who and where are the descendants?

? Who were the parents of Johanne Eleonore TRAUTMANN?

? In the "WINKLER Chronik", a note from great-greatgrandfather Friedrich WINKLER is quoted that requests the DEUS family in (Groß-) Lauden be informed of the death of his wife Karoline HECKERT in 1887. Were they related or very good friends? What is the relationship with Martha HEINRICH, who is described as a distant relative of Friedrich WINKLER in the same source.

? There were many other WINKLER families in Kreis Strehlen. Are there connections?

 

JAKOB

• At this time, my database lists only 3rd great-grandmother Johanna Eleonore JAKOB (1788-1873) and her parents Johann Gottlieb JAKOB and Anna Barbara SCHUBERT in this family.

? Are there any records of Johann Gottlieb JAKOB (b. abt 1750), a master smith, in Charlottenbrunn? Who was his second wife and when did they marry? What happened to the 3 daughters and 1 son from the second marriage? What was he doing in Olbersdorf, Krs. Reichenbach when he died and what was the date?

? Who were Anna Barbara SCHUBERT's parents? Did they have property in Bärsdorf, Krs. Waldenburg? When was her first marriage to ? PRÄKELT; were there children? Were there additional children from the second married? When did she die?

? What was the cause of Johanna Eleonore's first husband Johann Gottlieb JAHN's death in 1811 at Olbersdorf?

 

HECKERT

• My database lists many of the descendants of 4th great-grandparents Johann Christoph HECKERT (1756-1810, son of Friedrich HECKERT) and Johanne Eleonore KRAUSE (1761-1817). Primary locations: Gollschau, Grünhartau, Woiselwitz.
• Key sources for HECKERT relatives are "Die Geschichte des Dorfes Gollschau, Kr. Strehlen" and "Kirchenbücher: Strehlen - Heiratsregister".
• Related surnames: STOLTZ, SCHRÖTER, PLETSCHKE.

? Gottfried HECKERT of Woiselwitz was probably the elder brother of 3rd great-grandfather Karl Siegesmund HECKERT (1794-1860) and Karl Gottlob HECKERT (1799-1859). Can this be verified? Were there additional siblings? Nov 2003: I received an email from a descendant of Karl Gottlob, identifying 8 siblings but it did not include the information source or descendents' names.

? Why was Karl Siegesmund HECKERT not "alt-lutherisch" like his brothers? Did this cause a rift in the family?

 

MENZEL

• At this time only 3rd great-grandmother Anna Rosina MENZEL (1795-1849) is in my database.

? Who were Anna Rosina's parents? Did they own property in Peterwitz/ Strehlen, where she was born?

 

HAUNSCHILD / HAUENSCHILD / HAUSCHILD

• My database lists some of the descendants of Christopf HAUENSCHILD (b. abt 1700), son of Friedrich HAUSCHILD, and Maria CHRIST (b. abt 1705), daughter of Johann CHRIST. Locations include (for the main line) Karschau, Gollschau, Groß-Kniegnitz, Schönfeld (Kreis Brieg), Karzen, Naßbrockguth, (other lines) Karschau, Gambitz.

? 4th great-grandfather Johann Gottfried HAUNSCHILD (1763-1816) was born posthumously (after his father's death). What did his father Gottfried HAUNSCHILD (1738-1763) die of?

? Who were the parents of his mother Rosina Helene LEUKART (or BURKARTEN)? Was Susanna Eleonore LEUKERT, married to Gottfried BLASIUS in Jäschwitz [Hannsfeld], her sister?

? The widowed Rosina Helene Haunschild née LEUKART married Christian Gottlieb TELLER of Lohrankwitz [Rolandsmühle]. Did they have children?

? Johann Gottfried's first wife Maria Rosina WEYMANN (1774-1802) was the third daughter of Benjamin WEYMANN (b. abt 1735) and Elisabeth Maria TÄUBER (1739-1804). Who were her siblings and where are their descendents?

• My database lists most of the descendants of 4th great-grandparents Gottfried PILZ (1744-1818) and Johanna Elisabeth HERTELIN (1749-1802) (descendent tree).
• Gottfried was the "youngest" son of Johann PILZ (1684-1767) and Rosina GRUNDMANN (1700-1767).
• Johanna Elisabeth was the "middle" daughter of Daniel HERTEL (1703-1779).

• One of my key sources for my PILZ relatives is "Chronik der Familie PILZ".

? Who were the other siblings of these ancestors and were there descendants?

? There were other PILZ families in Kreis Strehlen. Are there connections? (The surname is probably derived from the village of PILZ in Kreis Frankenstein, near Kamenz).

 

SCHÖNFELDER

• My database list some descendents of 4th great-grandparents Benjamin SCHÖNFELDER (1762-1823) and Maria Rosina STANKE (1774-1856).
• Benjamin's parents were Thomas SCHÖNFELDER (1727-1796) and Dorothea Christine REICHERTIN (REICHERT) (d. 1789).
• Maria Rosina's parents were Johann Gottlieb STANKE and Christine GRÖGER.
• Locations: Laugwitz (Kreis Brieg), Friedersdorf (Kreis Strehlen)
• Key sources for SCHÖNFELDER ancestors are "Chronik der Familie PILZ",  "HAUNSCHILD Stammtafel" and "ZOLL Ahnentafel".

? 5th great-grandfatherThomas SCHÖNFELDER seems to have moved to Friedersdorf between his marriage (1760) and the birth of his son (1762). What prompted the move? Was his wife Dorothea Christine REICHERTIN born or from Friedersdorf?

? Did they have other children? There were other SCHÖNFELDER families in Friedersdorf as well as elsewhere in Kreis Strehlen. What are the connections?

 

GIEHLER

• My database lists most of the descendants of 4th great-grandparents Gottlieb GIEHLER (b. abt 1765) and Anna Maria VÖLKEL (see also PILZ, SCHÖNFELDER). Key location: Wammelwitz.

? Who were Anna Maria VÖLKEL's parents? Is there a connection to the VÖLKEL family of Karzen?

? Gottlieb and Anna Maria's son Johann Gottfried GIEHLER (b. abt 1796) married Anna Rosina REIMANN abt 1829. One source, in contradiction, says her name was LAUER. Is there an explanation for the conflict?

? Did Gottlieb and Anna Maria's other son Christian Gottlieb GIEHLER (1812-1854) marry?

 

REIMANN / REYMANN

• At this time, my database lists many of the descendants of 3rd great-grandfather Johann Gottlieb REIMANN (1777-1841). His father was Johann Christoph REYMANN (1755-1805) and Johanna Eleonore TOT (1755-1806).
• Johann Christoph's parents were Johann Christian REYMANN  (1732-1787) and Anna ? (d. 1806).
• Locations include: Schönfeld (Kreis Brieg), Konradswaldau (Kreis Brieg), Kurtsch (Kreis Strehlen).

? Was Friedrich Siegesmund REIMANN (d. abt 1885), Gutsbesitzer in Kurtsch, a brother of Johann Gottlieb? Did he have descendents? 

? Did Johann Gottlieb have other siblings? Aug 2004: I received an email from another REIMANN descendant with lots of information. There were at least 3 sisters who married and had descendants. Thank-you Maria-Christine!

? Who were Susanna's parents? Where was she born?

• My database lists some of the descendants of Peter STIRNAGEL (d. bef 1684) and his wife Anna. Their son (my 6th great-grandfather), George Stirnol (1639-1719) married Helena SOBOTA (1670-1737), daughter of Hans SOBOTTA. Younger son (my 5th great-grandfather) Paul STERNAL married Maria TSCHOIKE (TSCHIOCK / CIOK), grandson (my 4th great-grandfather) Gottfried STERNAL married Susanna GIEROTH (GEROTH). Additional ancestral surnames include SZYMANSKI, OKRUSCH, WOIWODE / WOIEWODA, WEIß.
• Primary locations include: Schwoika (Silingental), Runzen

• Anna Elisabeth's parents were Johann Davit JÄNISCH (d. 1746) and Maria Elisabeth STERNAL (1747-1834).
