SIEBENBÜRGEN -
TRANSYLVANIA
EVANGELISCHE KIRCHENBÜCHER - LUTHERAN CHURCH REGISTERS:
Abbreviations & Conventions used
- Entry order is as on original pages, usually by the date of the
event being recorded. These indexes are not alphabetical listings by surname.
- Surnames are transcribed as written (check for
alternate spellings)
- First names (Christian names) may be
abbreviated, eg. "Joh", "Steph",
"Mich"
- Parent's (usu. father's) first name appears
between brackets, eg. "(Georg)"
- Other villages referenced appear after name,
eg. "Joh Wenzel, Felsendorf"
- Spitznamen/ family nicknames often appear inside
pipe & colon, eg. "|:Lorinz:|"
- Dates are month.day, eg. May 12 = 5.12
- W = Witwe-Witwer/ widow-widower
- K = Knabe/ boy,
M = Mädchen/ girl
- TG = totgeboren/ stillborn, vdTg =
vor der Taufe
gestorben / died before baptism, pm =
vorzeitlich/ pre-mature
- <> = unehelich/ illegitimate
- HNr = Hausnummer/ house-number
- ? =
Fräglichkeit/ used to represent uncertainty
- x o * n z = after
entry number, indicate a transcribed entry (keyed to original notes)
- * = in date
column, indicates date recorded as day in the church year, not a calendar
date
- All entries are listed.
I considered excluding information on potentially living individuals, but
readers without the full text of the entry or not already knowing some key
information will not be able to identify a particular living person from
these entries.
- These files are indexes to the microfilms:
that is, additional information such as witnesses, officiants, etc., can
be found on the film images.
- Because the registers were filmed with right and left side pages
separately, an index is very helpful to ensure that you are matching the
correct right hand entry line.
- For descendant charts of those individuals in my LINGNER genealogy
database, see Stammväter
(Founding Fathers)
Note: I have tacit permission from the Rootsweb
accounts administrator to post PDF files on this website.
