4. CHARLES COTESWORTH9 FOLLETT (ALEXANDER8, SILAS7, JOHN AKA JOHN IV6, JOHN AKA JOHN III5, JOHN AKA JOHN II4, JOHN AKA JOHN I3, ROBERT WILLIAM2, JOHN1)
was born November 08, 1853 in Ulysses, Ithica, Tompkins County, NY, and died January 13, 1920 in Fargo, ND. He married SARAH E. OHR December 13, 1876 in Woodburn, Iowa2. She was born February 13, 18522, and died November 08, 1904 in Oriska, ND.
Notes for CHARLES COTESWORTH FOLLETT:
Charles told my grandfather, Leland, that he grew up in Oaks Corners, N.Y.,
which is today a tiny village in Ontario County, near the town of Geneva.
Ontario county borders Seneca county which borders Tompkins county in the Finger Lakes region of NY state.
The great-grand-parents of Charles, Silas and Nancy, are buried in Hayts Cemetery in Ithaca, Tompkins county.
I have discovered Charles had a brother John Curry Follett (born 12/1/1855), a sister Hattie Follett (born October 1859)
and a sister Ella Mahalah Follett.
Charles came west (to North Dakota) sometime around the mid-1870's, when he was in his early 20's.
It is believed he met his wife Sarah Orr (born 1852) somewhere along the way, possibly in Ohio or Indiana, where there is
some recollection she may have had family. They were married in Woodburn, Iowa in 1876, Charles and Sarah's first son
Clarence was born in Illinois in 1877. Eventually Charles, Sarah and young Clarence settled in Mapleton, ND. Charles worked
in a grain elevator in Oriska, ND and later became elevator manager in Mapleton, ND.
My dad said his grandfather Charles referred to himself as a "Yankee" from upper New York state. He often corresponded with
a sister known to Dad as "Aunt Hattie". In later years, Charles lived with his son Clarence (C.O.) Follett and wife Laura.
Notes for SARAH E. OHR:
Sarah Ohr was believed by my father to have come from Ohio, Maryland or Indiana (?). I haven't been able to locate anything re her birthplace or parents.
I have seen a handwritten letter to a sister indicating a great devotion to her husband "Charlie" and sons and her worries about them
while she was travelling to see a doctor. She died of cancer.

Less than a day after he returned from California, Clarence O. Follett, 69, died from a heart ailment at his home, 302 Ninth St. S., at 11:00 am today. He was a pioneer Fargoan and the president of Smith, Follett & Crowl, wholesale drygoods concern.

Mr. Follett had been in California since January, his health had not been good since his wife's death last July, and he had had a heart attack while in the west.
