The young, the old, the wives and husbands are all Burgums and they've returned to their roots because the Burgum family can be traced back more than 300 years to this corner of Gloucestershire. Many of this grand get-together didn't know anything about their Gloucestershire ancestors until they were contacted by family historian Doug Burgum.

Doug Burgum: I like to think they are very nice people. I've met most of them. I am very lucky; my job involves travelling and so I've been all round the world meeting these people and I thought it important that they get together.

Interviewer: The family party will last all weekend so there is plenty of opportunity to get to know each other.

Dan Burgum: I thought I was from Canning Town, East London, and with Douglas and all that, you know, he's brought our roots back from where we've all come from originally.

Interviewer: What do you reckon to Gloucstershire?

Dan Burgum: Fantastic!

Interviewer: Rick Burgum, where are you from?

Ruth Bridges: And what a wonderful day and the Gods are smiling on us and getting us together, I think its terribly exciting. Its the best thing that's ever happen to me in 76 years.

Interviewer: And when you're this proud of your family, there's only one thing left to say...

One voice: Three cheers for the Burgum family...

Assembly of all the Burgums, standing on the steps of Clearwell Castle: Hip, hip, horray! Hip, hip, horray! Hip, hip, horray!
