(Written 13th October 1850 - AA family tree). A rather sad tale!

Poor Notice - Ann Burgum

Parish of Woolwich in the County of Kent within the Metroploitan Police Disrtict -
As to the Removal of Ann Burgum Widow, Ann and Ellen (twin sisters) aged fourteen years, Mary aged ten years, Charlotte aged seven years and Martha aged five years, her five lawful children. To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Wich and Abson in the County of Gloucester-

TAKE NOTICE that the above named Ann Burgum now residing in the Parish of Woolwich in the County of Kent has, with her five lawful children, become and now is chargeable to the Parish of Woolwich and is now receiving Relief from said Parish of Woolwich and that an Order of One of the Magistrates of the Police Courts of the Metropolis has been obtained for their Removal to your Parish of Wick and Abson as their last place of legal Settlement, a Duplicate of which Order is herewith sent, AND TAKE NOTICE that the following are the grounds of the said Removal including the particulars of the Settlement relied upon by us in support thereof

For that Henry Burgum now residing in Mark Lane Saint Philip in the City of Bristol is the Father of John Burgum the late Husband of the said Ann Burgum the Pauper. That the said Henry Burgum was by Indenture of Apprenticeship bearing date the 31st day of December in the year 1803 bound an Apprentice to Richard Haynes of the said Parish of Wick and Abson and duly served him under such Indentures of Apprenticeship and resided and slept in the said Parish of Wick and Abson during the last forty days of the Term specified in such Indenture that the said Henry Burgum was lawfully married to his first wife by her then maiden name of Ann Burchell at the Parish Church of Wick and Abson in the year 1807 and had lawful issue of such marriage John the late Husband of the said Pauper Ann Burgum. And for that the said Henry Burgum nerred did any other Act whereby to gain a legal Settlement And for that the said John Burgum his son never did any Act to gain any Settlement in his own right-

And also for that the said Ann Burgum with her said five lawful Children have come to inhabit in and are now inhabiting in the said Parish of Woolwich and before and at the time of the making of the said Order were and still are chargable to the said Parish of Woolwich and receiving Relief therefrom
AND TAKE NOTICE that unless Notice of Appeal against the said Order be received by us within twenty one days from the sending hereof or, in case of your Application for a Copy of the Depositions on which such order has been made, within a further period of fourteen days after the sending of such Copy the said Paupers will be removed to your said Parish of Wick and Abson in pursuance of the said Order and no Appeal againstsuch Order shall afterwards be allowed.

Given under our Hands this thirtieth day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty.
