However, I have not yet been able to find total proof of this. Comments appreciated.

OTHER INDIVIDUALS & SURNAMES RELATED TO MILLER FAMILY
Col Richard Lee (ancestor of Gen Robert E Lee) b March 22 1615? 1617? Shropshire England, d abt 1685 Northumberland Co VA. Came to Virginia Colonies in 1635, and by 1642 had settled in York Co. Was a member of the House of Burgesses, a justice of the court, and a very wealthy land owner. Married Anne Constable. Moved to Northumberland Co VA in abt 1654, and establed plantation "Cobb's Hill". Richard Lee was gggg grandfather of Gen Robert E Lee, and related to President Zachary Taylor, and many other historical figures in US history. NOTE OF CONTROVERSY: My descendency is supposedly through William C Lee, son of Richard Lee & Anne Constable, who supposedly had a daughter, Mary Lee. According to "Genealogies of Virginia Families" William & Mary Quarterly, Volume III, p 355, MARY LEE married 1) THOMAS HEATH (my line) and 2) Bartholomew Schreever Sr. WILLIAM LEE MADE MARY HEATH EXECUTRIX & PRINCIPLE HEIR OF HIS WILL,despite the fact that he had sons, and many researchers have indicated that she was in fact William's daughter. HOWEVER, Paul Nagel in his 1990 book, "The Lees of Virginia", indicates that Mary Heath was NO RELATION AT ALL to William Lee, merely a close friend or companion to whom he left all of his worldly wealth. (?) This seems very strange indeed, but then stranger things have happened throughout history. More research to come!

William Pride III b 1658 VA? England? d ft 1662 Henrico Co VA; m Jane HALCOTT. He was the son of William Pride II and Sarah Mays; grandson of William Pride I and Margaret Elliot. More research to come (Miller family of VA) QUAKER?

Thomas Shippey b abt 1608 England, died abt 1655 Bermuda Hundred Plantation, Henrico Co VA.Thomas Shippey, sometimes spelled Sheppey, came to Virginia in the vessel "Supply", 1620. He was living at Neck of Land in the Corporation of Charles City at the time of the census, 1623/4, and was there in the muster, 1624/5, aged 22. On 14 Nov. 1635 he patented 250 acres "west upon the River over against the neck of land, north upon Four Mile Creek and east upon the maine land." He named among the six headrights Thomas Sheppey and Elizabeth Sheppey. This grant failed to assign 50 acres for Sheppey's "personal adventure" and that was included in a renewal of the patent, 11 July 1637, for a total of 300 acres in Henrico County. On 13 Aug 1639 he added to his land in Henrico 250 acres adjacent to land of William Sharpe, Thomas Rowse, Artur Anthony and "four score acres east upon Godspeed Fort Creek."
This was in Bermuda Hundred as is shown in patents of 24 July 1645, 20 Nov 1652, and 7 Oct 1655. An Act of Assembly, 6 Jan 1639/40, named him one of the tobacco viewers for Henrico in the area that lay on the north side of Appomattox River. Thomas Sheppey married Elizabeth unknown, who was named as a headright in his 1635 patent. His grandaughter Martha Shippey married into the Stratton family above. This info from the book "Adverturers of Purse & Person".Reynard Anderson b abt 1630 England, came to VA colony in 1652 imported as a head right by Martin Coale; Individuals who were imported as head rights had their passage paid to the VA colony, and the person paying received 50 acres of land for each head right individual. Reynard was probably an indentured servant to Martin Coale for 5 to 7 years; after that time he could purchase or own land, but not before. Reynard Anderson married Elizabeth SKIFFEN, became a landowner in Charles City Co VA, and raised a large family.
Christopher Garlington Sr b bet 1614-20 England; emigrated to VA colony in 1638; m Elizabeth WYATT, lived Northumberland Co VA

Some say his execution was not warranted. There was a Manx ballad written in memory of his unjust death. Thomas Christian of VA and his father William were from a long line of Deemsters (judges) on the Isle of Man. (NOTE: Thomas CHRISTIAN was the gggg grandfather of Letitia Christian who married 10th President John Tyler. )

MOSELEY, GUERRANT, SAUNDERS or SANDERS & RELATED FAMILIES
MOSELEY
William Moseley b abt 1606 possibly London, England, died abt 1655 at Rolleston, Lynnhaven Parish, Lower Norfolk Co VA. William moved his shipping & merchant business to Holland (Delft & Rotterdam) in the years just prior to the English Civil War to avoid heavy taxation from the king. He had a partner, Arthur Blackmore, and when Arthur died, William married Arthur's widow Susanna (Burnet) Blackmore. Emigrated 1649 to Virginia Colony with his wife & children (sons ARTHUR and William Jr, stepdaughter Susanna Blackmore who married Capt William Corker, see Grandmother's section below), possibly sailing aboard his own ship, and settled in or near Lynnhaven, Lower Norfolk County. Built a house/plantation called Rolleston in the Dutch colonial style. William died in 1655 as per his wil

SAUNDERS/SANDERS (At this time new information has been found, on this family, see below. Comments Appreciated!)
Edward Saunders I b 1595 South Molton, Devonshire, England; died 1686 Northumberland Co VA; married (possibly) Anne PANDRETH (unverified by me).
Dr Edward Saunders II b Aug 10, 1625 prob Devonshire, England; died June 1672 Northumberland Co VA; m Mary WEBB; she was married previously to John HUDNALL and married after Edward's death to William THOMAS. Numerous deeds & court records in Northumberland Co VA, referring to this Edward Saunders as a "Chirugeon" (Surgeon). Son Edward chose "Mrs Mary Thomas" as his guardian after his father's death.
Capt Edward Saunders III b 1655-1660 Northumberland Co VA, died July 1734 Lancaster Co VA; m Elizabeth TEEL/TEIL; numerous deeds & court records in Northumberland & Lancaster Co VA stemming from a legal battle over lands that were left to his brother Ebenezer SAUNDERS. Capt Edward SAUNDERS only names four daughters and their husbands in his will. Not sure why. More research to come.
John Saunders/Sanders b abt 1685/1686 Northumberland or Lancaster Co VA; m Elizabeth SIBLEY; unverified as either the son of Capt Edward III Saunders who died 1734 Lancaster Co VA OR as the father of James SAUNDERS/SANDERS who died 1776 Orange Co NC. Comments appreciated.
James Saunders/Sanders Sr b abt 1700 VA m Unknown, then possibly 2nd) Cassandra HAIDEN/HADDON in 1744; died 1776 Orange Co NC as per his will. James SAUNDERS/SANDERS Sr had four sons as per bio of Romulus Mitchell SAUNDERS, a NC judge & statesman: Col James SAUNDERS/SANDERS Jr who died 1825 Orange Co NC; Thomas SAUNDERS/SANDERS who married Mary MITCHELL & died 1812 in TN; Richard SAUNDERS/SANDERS; and Capt William SAUNDERS/SANDERS who married 1st) Hannah MITCHELL, father of Romulus Mitchell SAUNDERS.
The Will of James SAUNDERS/SANDERS Sr who died 1776 Orange Co NC does not include his children Thomas SAUNDERS who married Mary MITCHELL, Keziah SAUNDERS who married Thomas DONOHO & 2nd)Thomas JEFFREYS, or Elizabeth SAUNDERS who married Thomas ATKINSON. Not sure why. None of them were deceased in 1776. I am guessing they might be children from a previous marriage? He does mentions sons James, Richard & William, and several daughters, some of which appear to be by his second wife Cassandra.
However, the 1825 will of Col James SAUNDERS/SANDERS, son of James SAUNDERS/SANDERS Sr who died 1776 Orange Co NC, shows that Col James apparently never married, and left some of his estate to the children & grandchildren of THOMAS SAUNDERS, KEZIAH SAUNDERS DONOHO JEFFREYS & ELIZABETH SAUNDERS ATKINSON naming them as neices & nephews, as well as naming Romulus Mitchell SAUNDERS as nephew & executor, and children of Richard SAUNDERS/SANDERS as nephews & nieces.
Thomas Saunders/Sanders b abt 1727-1728 VA; died Davidson Co TN as per Nov 28, 1812 will; m Mary MITCHELL; Rev War as per DAR Patriot index. Haven't been able to trace him in NC, but several of his children were living in TN by 1790s, and he was likely living in TN by 1800, when his son Edward T Sanders married Lockey Trigg (first cousins). Two of Thomas' daughters, Judith Juliet Saunders/Sanders and Mary Polly Saunders married two brothers, Peter Guerrant Moseley and William Francis Moseley, landed gentlemen from Buckingham Co VA, as per Thomas' will and other records. After Judith/Juliet's death, Peter Guerrant Moseley married Sarah Sally Trigg, sister of Lockey Trigg & first cousin of wife Judith Juliet Saunders Moseley.
Mary Polly Saunders/Sanders b abt 1770s NC? VA? m William Francis MOSELEY; she is listed in her fathers' TN will as Polly Moseley. Died 1822 in Buckingham Co VA. Lived at "Hickory Shade" Plantation.

HANCOCK
William Hancock b Sept 4, 1580 Devonshire, England, d Mar 22 1622 Berkeley Hundred Plantation, Jamestown VA; and wife Susan Poynter. They were married Sept 22, 1604 at St Dunsten's, Stepney, England, and had three sons while still in England: Augustine, Simon and William. Apparently came to Virginia Colony in abt 1620; William was said to have come to obtain timber for his shipbuilding business. He was a member of the 2nd Virginia Company, and lived at Thorp's house at Berkeley Hundred. Supposedly William Hancock died in an Indian raid March 22, 1622. Unfortunately, there is some controversy about this informatiion and it is as yet unverified by me. I am doubly descended from William's son SIMON HANCOCK who married Sarah, widow of Gilbert Guye (Gaye?) as per Lower Norfolk Co VA court documents.
Simon Hancock b abt 1610 Devonshire England (son of William) >> Lower Norfolk Co VA m widow Sarah Guye/Gaye

OTHER SURNAMES & INDIVIDUALS ASSOCIATED WITH MOSELEY FAMILY
Col Thomas Ligon b Jan 11, 1623 Walsgrave-on-Sowe, Warwickshire England, d 1675 Henrico Co VA. Though from a titled family, Thomas was not able to inherit lands or money, so he came to Virginia at age 16, possibly at the behest of his first cousin William Berkeley (who had been appointed Royal Governor of Virginia). On April 18, 1644 he was at the home of Dr John & Sarah Woodson when Indians attacked, massacreing about 300 of the settlers. Though John Woodson died in the attack, Thomas Ligon assisted John's wife Sarah and their two sons, and they all survived. The gun he used with "Ligon" carved in the stock is on display at the Virginia Historical Society. Thomas Ligon married Mary HARRIS, daughter of Capt Thomas Harris, see below. Thomas Ligon was a member of the House of Burgesses, was a justice for Charles City Co, was a colonel in the militia, and a surveyor for Henrico County.
Thomas Taylor b abt 1688 Henrico Co VA m Judith Anne LEAKE
Thomas Harris b 1586-87 Crixsea, Essex co England, died May 30 1658 Henrico Co VA. Emigrated to Virginia Colonies sometime before 1620 (possibly as early as 1611?) on the ship "Prosperous"; was a member of the House of Burgesses for Henrico Co in 1623, 1634, 1647. Thomas was the third son of Sir William Harris, and is mentioned in his 1626 will. There is some controversy about Thomas' wife, but she is thought to be Adria GURGANEY, daughter of Edward Gurganey, below. Adria Harris is indeed isted in the 1621 passenger list of the ship " Marmaduke". Their daughter, Mary Harris, married Col Thomas Ligon, above.
Edward Gurganey b abt 1566 Crixsea, Essex Co England, died 1616. Jamestown VA; m Anne unknown in England, came to Jamestown in 1608 aboard the "Phoenix", as part of the so-called "First Supply: . Was a gentleman and a planter, an original settler of Jamestown. Was a member of the House of Burgesses in 1616, just before his death.

BRUTON/BREWTON
John Bruton b abt 1600-1610s England; died 1669 Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA, as per his will; m Unknown. Records found recently by me in Surry Co VA Records Vol I & II have firmly established that JOHN BRUTON was the immigrant ancestor of this family.
"JOHN SEAWARD 300 acres in Warraquioke Co (Isle of Wight); 1 July 1635 p 191. Upon S side of a creek running NW into the woods, WSW into the woods with a sw. (swamp?) running in the midle of the ground. Transport of 6 persons: Henry Weblin, Thos. Woodcock, Wm Thompson, Arthur Scott, JON. BRUTON, Edward Perkes" SOURCE: "CAVALIERS & PIONEERS"
(JOHN BRUTON's grandson James BRUTON b abt 1670 Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA married Mary SEWARD, daughter of William SEWARD and Elizabeth CAUFIELD, and great granddaughter of John SEWARD/SEAWARD Sr who was a prominent landowner in Isle of Wight Co VA
JOHN BRUTON arrived in Virginia in 1635 as an indentured servant to JOHN SEWARD/ SEAWARD Sr of Warraquioke Co (Isle of Wight Co VA, which part became in 1652 Surry Co VA). In 1652, JOHN BRUTON became a tenant farmer on Surry Co VA land owned by JOHN HOLMWOOD/HOLMESWOOD of Charles City Co VA. JOHN HOLMWOOD sold his land in 1656 to ROGER DELKE Sr of Surry Co VA, who before his death sold the same land, in 1659, to CAPT THOMAS ADAMS of Isle of Wight Co VA. CAPT THOMAS ADAMS died 1669, the same year as JOHN BRUTON, whose wife & heirs probably remained tenant farmers, according to the indenture of 1652 (unless wife remarried). In 1664 (1669? transcription error?) part of CAPT THOMAS ADAMS' land was sold by his heirs both in VA and England to ROBERT KAE Sr of Isle of Wight Co. The rest of the estate was managed by EDWARD BUSHELL of Surry Co VA, until CAPT THOMAS ADAMS' heirs were of age to manage the estate themselves. In 1678 ROBERT KAE Sr and wife MARY of Isle of Wight Co sold their land in Surry Co, purchased from estate of CAPT THOMAS ADAMS, to ROBERT CAULFIELD. Twenty years later, in 1691, ROBERT CAUFIELD willed land that he purchased of JOSEPH ROGERS to MARY (SEWARD) BRUTON wife of JAMES BRUTON, who was grandson of JOHN BRUTON. I am not certain whether this was the same land on which the Brutons farmed for many decades. Also, in 1693 Surry Co VA , JOSEPH ROGERS gave a horse to WILLIAM BRUTON Jr, son of WILLIAM BRUTON Sr of Lawnes Creek Parish, who was likely the son of JOHN BRUTON. Clearly there was some kind of relationship between JOSEPH ROGERS and wife MARY and the BRUTONS. Records found for JOHN BRUTON of Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA:

Feb 20, 1662 "Survey of land of Capt Thomas Adams & Roger Delk Sr, dec'd. Witness: JOHN BRUTON"
Sept 3, 1662 Jury inquest of death of servant of Mr. Peter Greene; JOHN BRUTON on juror's list.
1669 will of JOHN BRUTON of Lawnes Creek, Surry Co VA is only a fragment found in a Surry Co tax list; only mentions his wife, no names given. Witnessed by Jno. Charles, Alse (Alice) Gregory (previously wife of Roger Delke Sr), Thomas Clary, Ezra Clary.
William Bruton/Brewton Sr b abt 1630-1640 prob Isle of Wight (later became Surry Co VA) died abt 1703, m Unknown. 1683 Bacon's Rebellion shows WILLIAM BRUTON on a list of militia from Surry Co VA as well as a JAMES BRUTON, likely his son who was born in the 1660s. In 1687 they were both listed again as militia, regiment of foot, in Surry Co VA. WILLIAM BRUTON Sr also had a son WILLIAM BRUTON Jr, as per a 1693 Surry Co VA deed from JOSEPH ROGERS, giving WILLIAM Jr a mare. WILLIAM BRUTON Sr may have had a son GEORGE BRUTON (unverified) who witnessed the 1727 will of JOHN SUGARS in Isle of Wight Co.It appears from tax records that WILLIAM BRUTON Sr did not own land in Lawnes Creek Parish Surry Co VA until after 1680, which would have been after his son JAMES married MARY SEWARD, who received land from her uncle ROBERT CAUFIELD in 1691 as per his will. Neither WILLIAM BRUTON Sr nor JAMES BRUTON appear in Surry Co VA tax records before 1680. Source: Surry Co VA tax lists, deeds & court records.
James Bruton b abt 1660s Lawnes Creek Pariah, Surry Co VA d 1735 Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA as per his will; m Mary SEWARD, daughter of William SEWARD and Elizabeth CAUFIELD/ COFFIELD. Elizabeth was a daughter of WILLIAM CAUFIELD and DORCAS unknown, immigrants to VA who also settled in Surry Co VA, see below. JAMES BRUTON of Surry Co VA was a tobacco planter, and a slaveholder; he is listed on the Surry Co VA tax list 1680s-1704 (as far as I've researched) , and his name shows up on several will & estate documents as witness in 1713 & 1721. Apparently his wife MARY SEWARD inherited land from her uncle ROBERT CAUFIELD in 1691 that was supposed to go to her heirs, or revert to her husband. But her only heir & son WILLIAM BRUTON below makes no mention at all of land in his 1737/1739 will. I have yet to find a copy of MARY SEWARD BRUTON's will, which may clarify. More research to come. See Bruton section on Father's Family page for his transcribed will and list of children. William Bruton b abt 1690 Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA d 1739 as per his will; m 1st) Unknown; 2nd) after 1723, Sarah BINNS, daughter of Thomas BINNS Sr & Jane HART of Southwarke Parish, Surry Co VA. Son JAMES (who was mentioned in WILLIAM's father's will, but oddly not in WILLIAM'S) and another possible son GEORGE BRUTON, who was living in vicinity of New Bern, Craven Co NC (later Johnston & Dobbs Co) by 1748, were likely children of a first marriage. Will & Inventory show that he owned only slaves & livestock, apparently not land (which is curious, because his mother MARY SEWARD BRUTON was bequeathed land from her uncle ROBERT CAUFIELD in 1691 which was supposed to go to her heirs). WILLIAM mentions his sisters MARY BRUTON KAE/KEA, and ANN BRUTON JORDAN, and his friend CHARLES BINNS in the will. It was witnessed by THOMAS BINNS (brother-in-law) & GEORGE BREWTON (possible son?) . See Bruton section on Father's Family for a transcribed copy of the will. In 1736 Surry Co VA WILLIAM BRUTON (spelled "Bruten" in the document) also put up bond (set aside money) along with Charles CHAMPION and Benjamin BELL of Surry Co VA, to make Benjamin BELL guardian of Mary CHAMPION, an orphan. Clearly there was some kind of close relationship between WILLIAM BRUTON and the CHAMPION and BELL family of Surry Co VA, and particularly with Mary CHAMPION, as both other men were closely related to her--Charles CHAMPION was Mary's brother, and Benjamin BELL was her brother-in-law. Why else would WILLIAM BRUTON put up money for her care?? I now suspect that WILLIAM's sister ELIZABETH BRUTON may have married BENJAMIN CHAMPION II (they moved to Edgecombe/Halifax Co NC by 1738). BENJAMIN CHAMPION II was the brother of CHARLES CHAMPION & MARY CHAMPION the orphan. More research to come! James Bruton b 1710-1720 abt Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA m possibly Mary BRANCH (unverified) , died Anson Co NC or vicinity (unverified); mentioned in the 1735 will of JAMES BRUTON (above, husband of MARY SEWARD) as grandson. Several of his uncles & cousins from Surry Co VA moved to Craven, Johnston, Edgecombe & Dobbs Co NC before the Revolutionary War, so it is not inconceivable that JAMES would have gone to NC also. Mary BRANCH, daughter of FRANCIS BRANCH & ELIZABETH NORWOOD, of Isle of Wight, Surry & Southampton Co VA, is unverified as wife of James, but from her mother's 1750 Southampton Co VA will, it appears that MARY BRANCH did marry a male BRUTON (of which there were few) and had a daughter SARAH BREWTON who was named in her grandmother's will. Some researchers have indicated that MARY BRANCH married a BREWSTER, because the surname was transcribed incorrectly, but the naming of the granddaughter clearly as "Sarah Brewton" suggests otherwise. . Southampton Co VA is just south of Surry Co VA and is on the North Carolina border. More research to come.Source: Research of Thomas Gambrell; Isle of Wight Co VA records; Surry Co VA wills, Southhampton Co VA wills.
David Bruton Sr b abt 1736-1740s Surry Co VA? Southampton Co VA? NC? >> Anson Co NC or vicinity by 1760s >> d 1812 Spartanburg Co SC as per will, married SUSANNAH unknown, likely a second marriage for both, as she was much younger than DAVID, dying in 1838 Spartanburg SC as per her will. See Bruton section on Father's Family for their transcribed wills. Some researchers have indicated that DAVID BRUTON & his brother JAMES BRUTON/BREWTON who died 1816 in Madison Co AL were the sons of SAMUEL BRUTON who was living in Anson Co NC at about the same time as they were, but I have never found any proof of this. I suspect that SAMUEL BRUTON was their brother, not father. Another brother, GEORGE BRUTON b 1740s who married CATHERINE, died 1815 in Spartanburg SC, and his will was witnessed by two of DAVID's sons. There are several land records & deeds in Anson Co NC 1760s for DAVID BRUTON, brother JAMES BRUTON, and brother GEORGE BRUTON in 1784-1786 in district Ninety Six, on Ferguson's Creek, near the Tyger River and in what became Spartanburg County, SC. One deed from the 1770s shows that DAVID's land was in North Carolina until the border changed, and then he was in South Carolina. So he did not actually move to SC, the borders simply changed around him. More research to come. In 1648 he transported a great number of individuals from England as head rights, receiving 50 acres of land for each person transported. In return he received 50 acres for each individual. WHITECOTTON
John Cotton/Anne White surname of son William hyphenated to become WHITE-COTTON b 1600s Dorset England; d Jamestown, James City Co Virginia NOTE: I have not been able to verify this couple in early VA records, so I am beginning to suspect this story is more legend than fact. The earliest Whitecotton I can verify is MEALY WHITECOTTON b abt 1688 Stafford Co VA, who married Sarah Foote. Also records indicate that Mealy Whitecotton was the son & heir of Ann Axton (see below), and it is commonly thought Ann married Isham Whitecotton. It is a possibility that the Whitecottons immigrated to Maryland, not Virginia. Both MEALY & ISHAM are surnames; MEALY is a variant spelling of Malley, Maley or O'Malley.
William White-Cotton b abt 1620s VA (no records to be found for this individual, still the stuff of legend) m unknown
Isham Whitecotton b abt 1660s poss Westmoreland Co VA >> Stafford Co VA m Anne (AXTON) SMITH , daughter of John Axton of Stafford Co VA (have not been able to verify Isham, but Anne AXTON is in records & deeds for Stafford Co VA, and her son Mealey WHITECOTTON below has also been verified through records).
Mealey Whitecotton b abt 1688 Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA m Sarah FOOTE, daughter of Richard Foote Sr of London England. (all verified & in records); Mealey is a variant spelling of Malley, Maley or O'Malley.
George Whitecotton Sr b abt 1700 Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA; died March 23, 1744 Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA; m in abt 1728 Bridget unknown. Bridget remarried after George's death, 2nd) in 1747 to William McConchie, & 3rd) in 1750 to Stephen Pilcher. She had children by each husband, and so must have been quite a bit younger than GEORGE WHITECOTTON Sr, possibly a 2nd wife?? for she was with child in 1775, when Stephen Pilcher wrote his will and died.
George Whitecotton Jr b abt 1735 Overwharton parish, Stafford Co VA; m (possibly) Mary HARRIS; George was a soldier in the French & Indian War. Mentioned in George Washington's diary when he was a surveyor.

Nicholas Langford / Lankford Jr b abt 1700 New Kent ? or Gloucester Co ? VA; m Judith unknown as per his will; lived possibly in Caroline Co VA and after 1760 Pittsylvania Co VA, which part became Henry Co VA. He is listed 1767 Pittsylvania Co VA tax list. Henry Langford / Lankford b abt 1720s-30s poss Caroline Co VA, died 1794 Greenville SC; m MARY unknown; she married 2nd) to William COX who died 1814 Greenville Co SC, and MARY herself died in 1844 at age 95 in Greenville SC in the home of her stepson Abraham COX, according to Greenville newspapers of the time. HENRY LANGFORD lived in Henry Co VA (previously Pittsylvania Co) at the time of his father's will in 1779, and likely migrated to Surry Co NC, living with or near his brother Robert LANGFORD until the late 1780s, when he starts showing up in deeds in Greenville County SC. HENRY died 1794 in Greenville Co SC; a 1792 land deed to his brother Eli Langford/ Lankford indicates HENRY as "of Greenville SC". Brother Robert Langford/Lankford was listed in 1790 Spartanburg SC census.
Nancy Langford b March 8, 1794 Greenville, SC m David Bruton b Jan 18, 1790 Greenville, SC (schoolteacher, see above) ; they were married Feb 10, 1810 Greenville SC and lived by 1826 McNairy Co TN >> 1840s Tishomingo Co MS >> 1850s Greene Co MO. Nancy died 1888 in Webster Co MO.
JORDAN/JORDAINE/JOURDAIN
Samuel Silas Jordan b abt 1578 Wiltshire England; died bf 1623 Beggar's Bush, Jordan's Journey Plantation, Prince George Co VA. m 1st) Frances Unknown in England; 2nd) Cecily Reynolds in VA.
"Samuel Jordan (1578 1623), was an early Jamestown settler in the Virginia Colony and one of the first American colonial legislators, born in Wiltshire, England, son of Robert Jordan. The Jordans, or Jourdains, were of French descent, Huguenots associated with the protestant reformation.
Jordan traveled to the New World as part of the 'Third Supply' of the Virginia Company, to the first English colony at Jamestown. He was a passenger on the Sea Venture, the flagship of the fleet which became shipwrecked on Bermuda, (perhaps the first example of the mythical Bermuda Triangle phenomenon).
Sylvester Jourdain, possibly Samuel's cousin (although there is no evidence that Samuel Jordan and Sylvester Jourdain were related) kept a log of events as Governor Thomas Gates, Admiral George Somers, the other passengers and himself built two new ships (the Patience and the Diligence) from parts of the wrecked Sea Venture, and eight months late, finally arrived at Jamestown, only to discover the survivors of the Starving Time at the Colony. As they were about to abandon the colony, another supply mission commanded by Lord Delaware arrived, and together, these three groups became the most permanent and successful part of the early colony.
Samuel Jordan was a widower when he arrived in Jamestown, having three sons by his first marriage. The sons later followed him to the Americas. He married a local widow, Cecily Reynolds Bailey. Cecily arrived in the American colonies on the Swan, August 1610 (or 1611). A source states that she was ten years and alone when she arrived, because her parents and younger sister arrived in Jamestown between August 1609 and May 1610. In 1620 Samuel Jordan, settled in a place which became his plantation, known as Jordan's Journey. He built a home called Beggar's Bush, and was elected to the first legislative assembly in America, the House of Burgesses in Jamestown. Beggar's Bush may have been named for the play by Beaumont & Fletcher, but more likely is from common Elizabethan English use of the term, meaning "poverty, often caused by the person's own folly."
In 1622, the local Indian tribes organized a surprise attack on the English colonists. During what became known as the Indian Massacre of 1622, many men, women, and children were killed in a coordinated series of attacks led by Chief Opechancanough of the Powhatan Confederacy. After the attack, Samuel gathered together a few of the survivors at Beggar's Bush. At the time of a survey in 1623, Beggar's Bush housed 42 people, including many neighboring families who had gone there for protection. In early 1623 Samuel was still established in his plantation. Samuel died at Jordan's Journey sometime before April, 1623, and an inventory of his estate included his widow, Cecily and her two young daughters, two plantations, five houses, two boats, ten servants, and several coats of chainmail. Rev. Grivell Pooley, who had conducted Samuel's funeral, proposed to the widow Cicely shortly afterwards. She apparently consented but subsequently refused to go through with the wedding and accepted a second proposal from Col. William Farrar (the attorney who administered her husband's estate). On 14 June 1623, Rev. Pooley instituted the first breach of promise suit in America. Pooley lost his case and had to sign a formal release to the Widow Cecily bonding himself in the sum of 500 pounds never to have any claim, right or title to her. The Governor and Council of the Colony were so stirred by the extraordinary incident that they issued a solemn proclamation against a woman engaging herself to more than one man at a time. There is no known record that this edict has ever been revoked.
Samuel's three adult sons from his first marriage, Thomas, Robert, and Samuel, are believed to have come to Virginia in the 1620s. Robert reportedly died on March 22, 1622, during the Indian massacre. He was killed at Berkley's Hundred, some five miles up the river from Jordan's Journey, when he went there to warn the inhabitants there of the planned Indian attack. Thomas settled in Isle of Wight County. The other son, Samuel, is believed to have come to Virginia as a young man, returned to England to study at Oxford, and then came back to the Virginia after completing his studies at All Souls College, Oxford. Samuel is believed to have first settled in Surry County. Later he moved on west to Lunenburg County, and his trail was lost.
Samuel Jordan is known to Virginians as an Ancient Planter, being from the first colony, and his name is pronounced by locals now as 'Jer'-den'."

Charles Jones I b 1690s-1700 Westmoreland Co VA m Katherine/Catherine unknown (possibly LANCELOT/LAUNCELOT?); Charles & his sons were in Bertie Co NC records as early as 1728. He died 1748 Bertie Co VA; will mentioned wife, children Sarah Jones who married OUTREE/OUGHTREE/AUTREY?, Charles Jones II, Lancelot Jones, John Jones and wife's daughter Mary Jones probably from a previous marriage. CHARLES JONES' 1748 will was witnessed by NATHANIEL NICHOLAS/NICKLESS, see below, and WILLIAM RASBERRY, son of JOHN RASBERRY & BRIDGET BROWNE of Bertie Co NC. In 1725, CHARLES JONES gave 100 acres of land in Bertie Co NC, "for love", to WILLIAM RASBERRY's sister BRIDGET RASBERRY who later married THOMAS YATES. At this time I am not sure what kind of relationship there was between CHARLES JONES and the RASBERRY family of Bertie Co NC. More research to come.
John Jones b bef 1728 poss died 1758; m unknown, possibly Elizabeth NICHOLAS, daughter of NATHANIEL NICHOLAS/NICKLESS? of Bertie Co NC. If this is the correct JOHN JONES, he may have murdered his wife ELIZABETH in 1758 as per Bertie Co Court records and was executed by hanging in Chowan Co NC. His wife or mother may have had connections with the PIERCE/PEARCE family, and he may have named a son PIERCE JONES, as well as NICHOLAS JONES, see below. Apparently no will exists for JOHN JONES, and he did not move to Granville Co NC & Pulaski Co KY, as did his sons. More research to come
Nicholas Jones b bf 1758 prob NC; d aft 1821 near Fayetteville, Lincoln Co TN; m Martha"Patsy" MOORE Aug 6, 1782 In Granville Co NC, daughter of Arthur MOORE & Elizabeth STANLEY/STANDLEY. In 1785 Arthur MOORE owned land in Granville/Orange Co NC adjacent to land that was given to PIERCE JONES by his father-in-law Robert GRAVES. Arthur MOORE was also co-listed in 1757 tax list Bertie Co NC with Benton MOORE, and Charles JONES Jr.
NICHOLAS JONES' family and ARTHUR MOORE's family can be found in census, living near each other, from 1770s onward: 1770s-1782 Granville Co NC, 1784 Caswell Co NC, 1790 Madison Co KY, 1800 Pulaski Co KY, 1810 Rutherford Co TN and then 1820 Lincoln/Franklin Co TN.
Nicholas JONES & Martha Patsy MOORE had many children, but I have only been able to trace two of them: 1) John JONES who may have married Beatrice/Beda PRESLEY (Preslar?),who named a son RASBERRY JONES, and who also witnessed the 1821 will of Arthur MOORE, his grandfather, in Rutherford TN, and 2) Elizabeth JONES, see below.
Elizabeth Jones b abt 1782 prob Granville Co NC m Thomas SCOTT; in 1802 Pulaski Co . Elizabeth died around 1840 in McNairy Co TN. Thomas SCOTT family also can be found living near NICHOLAS JONES 'family and ARTHUR MOORE's family 1810 Rutherford Co TN; 1820 Lincoln Co TN. 1830-1840 they lived in McNairy Co TN, as per census. Thomas SCOTT migrated late in life from McNairy Co TN to Greene Co MO, likely with his son WILLIAM WARD SCOTT, and died there in 1849.

STUMP
Johann George Stump/Stumpf b 1679 Germany, d 1735 Heidelberg, Lancaster Co PA. Married Anna Margaretha Unknown (possibly Weiland). His son Michael settled in Hampshire / Hardy Co VA, which part later became West Virginia. There is some controversy as to the correct lineage of the Hampshire /Hardy Co VA (W VA ) Stump family; comments appreciated.
Michael Stump Sr b abt 1714 prob Germany, died 1768 Hampshire Co VA; m Anna Catherina Neff b 1716 Michelfield, Baden, Germany, daughter of Johann Michael Neff, below. Arrived in Philadelphia PA Sept 11, 1728 on ship "James Goodwill" with her parents & siblings. Some researchers have indicated Michael Stump's wife was Catherine Whitecotton, but that is utterly & completely incorrect, as the Whitecotton family is quite small and records show they lived only in Stafford Co VA previous to the Rev War.
Michael Stump Jr b April 8, 1744 poss Lancaster Co PA died June 2, 1799 Hardy Co VA (W VA); m Sarah Hughes daughter of Captain Thomas Hughes & Mary Baker. Michael Stump Jr fought in the Revolutionary War.
Elizabeth Stump b m Isaac Whitecotton; died aft 1860 in Alabama as per census records.

Lt Col William Caufield b abt 1620s-1630s prob England, died aft 1661 Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry Co VA; likely son of Gresham CAUFIELD, also immigrant to VA, who settled in Isle of Wight Co. Wm Caufield m Dorcas unknown; Daughter Elizabeth CAUFIELD married William SEWARD, above. Son Robert CAUFIELD was a prominent landowner and sheriff in Surry Co VA. Lt Col William CAUFIELD, his wife & children were named in the 1657 Isle of Wight VA will of Karby KIGAN. It is unknown how they were related. Surname spelled variantly Cowfield, Cofield, Coffield, Caulfield, Caufill, and more in records.
Richard Foote Sr b Aug 10, 1632, Cardenham, Cornwall, England, a wealthy London merchant, never settled in the Virginia Colony, but went there in abt 1650. Richard Sr, with a partner named Bristow, purchased a great deal of land for NICHOLAS HAYWARD, a London businessman. Nicholas Hayward had a plan to purchase Virginia land and then sell it to French Huguenots who were fleeing religious persecution in France. The plan was a miserable failure, and the three business partners were stuck with the land, some several thousand acres. In 1657, Richard married Nicholas's daughter, HESTER HAYWARD. The family lived in London, England, apparently surviving both the plague and the Great Fire of London. After Richard Sr's death in 1697, son RICHARD FOOTE Jr settled on the land that his father had purchased, in what would become Stafford County VA. Richard & Hester's daughter, SARAH FOOTE, was married first to Arthur Bradshaw in England?, but by abt 1703 had joined her brother in the Virginia colony. SARAH FOOTE married 2nd to MEALY WHITECOTTON, the grandson of JOHN AXTON below, had three sons George b 1707, Husband Foote b 1710, and Mealey Jr b 1710-15. Sarah Foote Whitecotton died after 1737 in Stafford County Virginia
John Cullan Axton b abt 1630 England? Ireland? was imported as a head right to VA colonies in 1648 by Lewis Burwell, a very wealthy landowner in Charles City County, VA. In early colonial VA, individuals imported as head rights had their passage paid for to the colonies, while the person paying the passage received 50 acres of land for each head right individual. Upon arriving in VA, John Axton probably became an indentured servant to Lewis Burwell for 5 to 7 years; after that point John could have purchased or owned land, but not before. It has been noted by several other researchers that John Axton married Mary Mansell/Mansfield, daughter of David Mansell/Mansfield who was in the House of Burgesses in VA colony, but that has proven to be ENTIRELY FALSE. Mary Mansell married 1st to Henry Blagrave I; in the 1660s, John Axton & a partner, Edward Cary, purchased 600 acres of land in Stafford Co VA from Henry Blagrave (land which was originally owned by David Mansell/Mansfield, and passed to his daughter Mary Mansell upon her marriage to Henry Blagrave) . After both Henry Blagrave's & Edward Cary's death, John Axton sought to legally claim this 600 acre parcel, and Mary Mansell Blagrave, who in widowhood remarried, to a Mr. Heard or Hoard, FOUGHT JOHN AXTON IN COURT for possession of the 600 acres. Apparently Mary Mansell Blagrave with her "Sonne in Law" had conspired to sell the 600 acres to John Gowry & his wife Rachel, knowing full well that John Axton & Edward Cary had already purchased the land in 1660. After John Axton's death sometime before 1687, John's daughter ANN AXTON and her 1st husband JOHN SMITH filed suit to reclaim the 600 acre parcel. They must have been successful, for it is noted in the register of Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA that the 600 acres of land were passed to Ann (Axton) (Smith) Whitecotton's son & heir, Mealey Whitecotton b aft 1688 (She married 2nd time to ISHAM WHITECOTTON around 1688??). WALKER (Note: This line not completely verified. Comments appreciated)
Nancy Walker b 1790 possibly Rockbridge Co VA, m Simon VAN ARSDALE (Vanarsdale, Vanasdall, Van Alsdale, Vanosdal etc etc) on Sept 21, 1814, Corydon, Harrison Co IN; Simon died 1828 as per his Harrison Co IN will, and Nancy and nearly all of her nine children died in the 1832 Cholera epidemic in Harrison Co IN. Three surviving daughters, all born Harrison Co Indiana, were: HARRIET VAN ARSDALE b 1818 Harrison Co IN m Jacob Enfield; MARGARET VAN ARSDALE b Feb 18, 1823 Harrison Co IN m Nathan Caldwell; my gg grandmother NANCY VAN ARSDALE b March 31, 1828 Harrison Co IN m Eli Branson Frazier.
Two of the sons of Simon VAN ARSDALE and Nancy WALKER, both of which died in the 1832 Cholera Epidemic, were named ALEXANDER VAN ARSDALE b 1814-1828 Harrison Co IN and WILLIAM H. VAN ARSDALE b 1814-1828 Harrison Co IN, first names which were not found in the Van Arsdale family. Because of this, I now suspect that NANCY may have been the daughter of ALEXANDER WALKER & JANE TILFORD, and granddaughter of WILLIAM HAMMER WALKER and JANE McCLUNG WALKER of Rockbridge Co VA. Some of their decendents did migrate from Rockbridge Co Virginia through Kentucky to southern Indiana. More research to come.
