[Send photo] [Change name] [Make new Folder] [Move messages] [Delete-mails] [Change pane layout] [Pane layout] [Increase text size.]
Q. How do I send a photo by e-mail?
A. Step 1. Scan the photo in one of your photo programs and
save the scanned image as a .jpg type file. Be careful not to use
too high a resolution or the file will be humongous.
Step 2. Start your email and address it as usual.
Step 3. Go to the paper clip or the File menu and when the
browse window comes up, go to the location where you saved the file.
Click on it, click ok or open or whatever is required to indicate that
file. The window should close and the file will be attached for sending.
Step 4. Send the email in the usual manner. It will
take longer as there is a sizable file that is being sent as well as the
email itself.
Note, if it is over approximately 50K, and the recipient is with AOL, they will receive it in MIME format which means they will have to decode it back to the jpg format. They can use the keyword "MIME" on aol to find all about the decoding necessary and download a utility to do so.

Answer 2. In Win98, I also am able to right click on the saved image and a block will give me the option to send by email. When I use that option an email is automatically created with the image attached and I then add the address and any message. I believe this option may also be available in Win95.

Q. How do I delete a group of e-mails, do I have to do it one-at-a-time?
A. No - if you want to delete a group of consecutive e-mails just
click on the first one, hold down Shift and scroll to the last one. This
will highlight them all and a push of the Delete key will get rid of them
all.
If you want to get rid of some but leave others, then you need the
Ctrl key option - hold the Ctrl key as you click on the e-mails you want
to delete. The highlighted ones will be wiped when you push the Delete
key.
Q. How do I change the name that is displayed on my e-mails in the
Sender column.
A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on the + beside Mail & Newsgroups.
Now click on Identity and change the name in the 'Your Name' box.
Q. How do I make a new Folder so I can move important e-mails into
it - and how do I move those e-mails to the new Folder?
A. Make a new Folder by clicking on File/New Folder.
To move a message to that Folder, when
you have message highlighted in preview pane you can either click on highlight
bar and drag it into the new folder or you can go the Message/Move Message
route.
Q. I don't like the layout of the preview , folder and message panes
when I read my e-mails. Can I change them?
A. Of course - go Edit/Preferences and click the + beside Mail &
Newsgroups. Now click on 'window setting' and choose which of the
two layouts you like. To choose, check the white circle beside your choice.
Size of the panes can be changed by dragging the lines dividing them.
Q. When replying to an e-mail some people quote original text, others
don't. Also some have their reply before original and some have the reply
after the original text. Where can I choose which of these options I want?
A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on the + beside Mail & Newsgroups.
Now click on 'Messages' and you will see the options.
Q. I thought that a copy of messages I sent would be retained on
the computer. Why doesn't Netscape save my Sent messages?
A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on the + beside Mail & Newsgroups.
Click on 'Copies & Folders' and tick the 'place a copy in folder Sent'
Q. My Rootsweb-L list won't let me use HTML. They insist on Plain

A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on the + beside Mail & Newsgroups.
Click on 'Formatting' and make your choice from that screen.
Q. I know that when I delete messages it doesn't actually free up
any disk space. How do I free up the space the messages occupied?
A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on the + beside Mail & Newsgroups.
Click on 'Disk space' and tick the 'automatically compact folders'
and set the size for 100kB.
Q. When I start Netscape, both e-mailer and browser load. I only
want the e-mailer, so how do I choose what loads?
A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on Appearance. Tick whatever
you want to load.
Q. The writing is too small on messages I receive - I can't see them
well. Can the size font be increased?
A. Go Edit/Preferences and click on the + by Appearance. Click
on Fonts and increase the sizes.
Q.On my email frame the -Subject-From-Date-To box , the text is very
difficult to read. Is there any way to make the print bigger?
A.The font in that section is primarily related to the windows fonts.
You can try right clicking on an open area of the desktop and selecting
Properties, then the appearance tab. In the window that shows,
click on the words "Message Text" in the message box. You will get
an Item with
Message Box and in the window below will be the font associated
with it. Check the size. You can increase this with the little down
arrow just at the right of the font size. It may take a little playing,
but you should be able to increase that section with one of these settings.

Q. I use Netscape Navigator 4.75 in Windows 95 but by
default some of my files, such as any images/graphics, are set up
to open with Internet
Explorer. How can I change this?
A. Find a file with the extension (graphic) that you want to open
with Netscape. HOld down the shift key and RIGHT click. There
will be a menu pop
up that has an entry "Open with". Select this and your association
window will open. Scroll down until you find netscape (or if not
there use the more
to browse to the location of netscape) and make sure the box in
the lower left is checked. Next time you click on that type of graphic
file, Netscape
will open it. You will have to do this with all the types
of graphic files that you want to use.
Q. How do I set up a Filter?
A. Lets assume we're setting up a filter which will put all Gen-Newbie
mail into its own Folder.
1. In Messenger click on Edit.
2. Click on Filters.
3. Click on New.
4. In the box that appears - give the 'Filter
Name' as Newbie.
- the next line of boxes should read the 'TO' of
the message 'CONTAINS' 'GEN-NEWBIE'
- in the next line choose 'move to folder' then click on 'new folder'
and type a name of GEN-NEWBIE and have it as a
sub-folder of Inbox.
- give it a description, then click on O.K.
If you're wondering why TO and GEN-NEWBIE appear in the same line,
when the message comes *from* Gen-Newbie, just remember that the message
was originally sent TO GEN-NEWBIE and the list merely passed it on to you
and all other list members.
If you want to write a filter to put all messages addressed to you
in their own folder, the line would have TO, IS and YOURADDRESS.
