HOW TO POST IN PLAIN TEXT USING AOL 6.0 or 7.0

Following are the directions for sending your AOL 6.0 or 7.0  messages to the list in plain text:
 1.  Make sure your font is set to Arial.  (Note:  I understand  that Arial is 6.0's default font, so this shouldn't be a problem.)
 2.  Type your message (in Arial) and then highlight it.  Then,  right click > text > normal.
 3.  Send your message to the list!

From another source:

When authoring e-mail in AOL 6 or 7, remove all formatting from the message body and send the message in the AOL 6/7 default of
Arial, size 10 and do not include any bold/italics/underline, colors, or other  styles.

Q. How do I send a photo by e-mail?
A. Step 1.  Scan the photo in one of your photo programs and save the scanned image as a .jpg type file.  Be careful not to use too high a resolution or the file will be humongous.
Step 2.  Start your email and address it as usual.
Step 3.  Go to the paper clip or the File menu and when the browse window comes up, go to the location where you saved the file.  Click on it, click OK or open or whatever is required to indicate that file.  The window should close and the file will be attached for sending.
Step 4.  Send the email in the usual manner.  It will take longer as there is a sizable file that is being sent as well as the email itself.

Note, if it is over approximately 50K, and the recipient is with AOL, they will receive it in MIME format which means they will have to decode it back to the jpg format.  They can use the keyword "MIME" on aol to find all about the decoding necessary and download a utility to do so.

Answer 2. In Win98, I also am able to right click on the saved image and a block will give me the option to send by email.  When I use that option an email is automatically created with the image attached and I then add the address and any message.  I believe this option may also be available in Win95.

Make seperate folders for e-mail, drag & drop messages as required.

Click on the "Save to Filing Cabinet" which appears at the bottom of the email.  The first option on the bottom of the drop down list is "Create New Folder".  You can put emails into AOL's existing "incoming/saved" folder or their "archives" folder, or create your own folders within the Filing Cabinet.  When you want to retrieve mail saved, click on Mail from the top left tool bar and then click on Filing Cabinet.

To move messages between Folders, either left-click and hold on the message in the Subject-Sender box and drag it to the new folder, or
right-click on the message in the Subject-Sender box and choose 'Move Message' and use the side arrow to choose which folder to move to.

Q. I  can find no instructions in the AOL help site to show me how to alphabetize my favorites.  All it tells me is to click edit and drag the subject to the spot I want it to be.  In a long list, that can take hours!  Is there a better way?

A. Actually, what the Help file says is:

To move an item in Favorite Places
1.  On the Favorites menu on the AOL toolbar, click Favorite Places.
2.  Drag the item to the new location in the list box.

As you indicated, dragging and dropping them ONE AT A TIME when you have a long list can be quite a chore. One thing you can do to improve the situation considerably is to use the Ctrl Key on the keyboard to move all, or large blocks of Favorites, together. For example, let's say you have a folder that contains 100 Favorites. Using AOL's recommendation you would have to move them around by dragging and dropping one at a time until you had them all in alphabetical order. However you could do the following:

1 - Select the Favorite you want to be first.

2 - Then, WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE Ctrl Key, click on the rest in the order in which you wish them to appear (in your case, alphabetical order). Each Favorite will become SELECTED (highlighted) as you click on it.

3 - After you've clicked on the last one RELEASE the Ctrl Key. Now drag any one of the selected Favorites to the top and drop it. They will ALL rearrange themselves and line up in the order in which you clicked on them.

Using the above method you could:

(a) Select the first one and then, WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE Ctrl Key, click on the remaining 99, or

(b) You could move them in sections;

Alphabetize the A Favorites then drag and drop them at the top, alphabetize the B Favorites the drag and drop them on the Favorite immediately following the last A Favorite, alphabetize the C Favorites and drag and drop them on the Favorite immediately following the last B Favorite, etc.

Or, you could alphabetize and move the ABCs, then the DEFGHs, etc.

One last point while I'm here. Once you have your Favorites in the order you prefer you can save yourself  a lot of future hassle by placing your Favorites in the proper location AT THE TIME YOU ADD Favorites. For instance, if you select a Favorites Folder (open or closed) prior to adding a Favorite AOL will add that Favorite to the BOTTOM of the list of Favorites in that folder. However, if you open the folder and select one of the Favorites (rather than just selecting the folder itself) AOL will add the Favorite in the list immediately AHEAD of the selected Favorite. Using this method I rarely have to reorganize my Favorites because they are added to the proper slot in the first place.
