| Captain in Revolutionary War. Crossed the Allegheny Mountains with Daniel Boone. Took active part in formation of Franklin Government, later state of Tennessee. Member of Convention which formed the first Constitution of Tennessee. Served in legislatures of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi, and at age 65 volunteered in the War of 1812. Died in his eighty-first year, "universally lamented".4 |
