Little Benonie Thompson was my great grandfather. I never knew him, nor heard of him until I reached my middle age. My family did not keep many records of their family, and since most were rather taciturn, we did not discuss our ancestry to any degree.
Somewhere in my middle years, I received some correspondence from Lerline Stokely, and it "stoked" my desire to learn more. My mother, who was a Thompson, provided me with some information and also gave me most of her correspondence with Lerline. Some of my mother's sisters also contributed information. My mother, Allie Mae Thompson Smith, lived into her 90's, and so did two of her sisters, Minnie Thompson Haynes, and Nettie Josephine Woods. Each had excellent memories until their final days.
So, with the combination of Lerline's correspondence, records, and photos along with the remembrances of my mother and her sisters, I began to accumulate quite a bit of information on the Thompson family. Later on, I began to find additional records on the Internet.
This website will include all of the information I have collected so far, and hopefully, it will contain a great deal more information which will be contributed by others in the future.
As the old saying goes, "Rome was not built in a day.", and this site will not be built over night. I will start it with a small amount of data and will let it grow over a period of time.
Hopefully, we can establish a "library" of information which can be consulted by present and future generations. Its success will depend, in a large part, on contributions of visitors such as yourself. A form can be accessed by clicking here. Please use it to submit information on you and your family.
