A Phylogenetic Chart for Haplogroup G2a and G2a1a
This chart shows
the course through history of the Y chromosome for one small group of genetically related men. The period of time
represented by the horizontal red line is thought to be about 150,000 years. At different points along that time-line,
indicated here at branches, some men unknowingly experienced modifications, or mutations, to their Y-chromosomal DNA, changes that
were passed on to and perpetuated by their male descendants. These mutations, such as M89 and M201, are called SNPs and
persist in the Y-chromosome DNA of a male descendant line more or less permanently. The descendants of Thomas Benedict of
Norfolk, England, and Connecticut are in haplogroup G2a1a.
