This is kind of a fun page. I found a website that can calculate the DNA results to
create a variety of charts that illustrate the relationships between members of a group.
Our Henry group is the only one with sufficient membership to make significant charts.
There are a wide variety of parameters one can specify in making these charts. The charts below were made using just one, arbitrary set of parameters. There are two sets of charts, one for all the members of the group (25 markers) and one for those who had the 37 marker test. (See below for information about the site if you want to experiment on your own.)

One of the results you can get from the calculator can be used in another program to create maps or trees of genetic patterns. (See below for information on this program.) The "modal" point can be thought of as the starting genetic code and the branches show the paths of the various mutations. Note that this is the best fit based on current data and shouldn't be taken as "the truth". But I find it useful to visualize how the family may have branched out from a common ancestor.

![]() As can be seen in the 37-marker results, Bill T. throws off the appearance of the tree. (Way to go, Bill!) The reason for this is that his results for marker 449 put him on one branch of the tree, while his results for 576 put him on another.I've created 3 trees, shown below, that illustrate this anomaly. In the first tree, I've changed Bill T.'s 449 results to match the one group and in the second, his 576 results have been modified. The third shows the tree without Bill T.'s results at all. What is the cause of this issue? The only idea I have - which I'm not really enthused about - is that a mutation mutated back to a previous state. Other suggestions are welcome.

![]() Where to go for more information: The calculator utility is found at the McGee Surname DNA Project. Dean McGee has provided lots of help to go with the utility. The tree-making (Phylogenetic Network) utility is a free download from Fluxus Engineering called Network which you can download and install. Dean provides a great Flash movie explaining how to use Network, which I highly recommend that you view before jumping in. Finally, here are the current (as of March 17, 2007) text files of the DNA results correctly formatted for Dean's utility, to save you from having to type in the information: 25-Marker text file and 37-Marker text file.
