I have learned that the name Beganyi is a Magyar (Hungarian) name. The final "i" in Beganyi
gives it the meaning "from Begany," which makes Begany a place name.
(Such surnames usually indicate that the family belonged to the lesser nobility.)

I have learned of two villages that are in what is now Ukraine. This part of
Ukraine is called Transcarpathia. This area was part of the Austro-Hungarian
Empire until 1919, Czechoslovakia from 1920 till 1938. After WWII the Soviets
kept the area and made it part of the Ukraine.

The names of these towns are, in Magyar, Kisbegany and Nagybegany.  The Ukrainian names are Mala Bihan' and Velika Began'.
