GADDIS FAMILY RESEARCH
My sister and I have been researching our Gaddis
family since 1980 and still have very little information except for recent
history obtained from our Mother, Julia Marie (GADDIS) LYON, her sisters, Nora
(Gaddis) NIX, Bettie Lucille (GADDIS) GREEN, and our grandmother, Bettie Lee
(SHEPPARD) GADDIS.
If you have information you can share with
us, please contact me. Proper credit will be freely and gladly given
to everyone who shares their gedfiles or other materials.
Connecting surnames: Barnes, Chapman,
Whalin, Raper, Nix, Green, Lyon, Ray, Boatwright, Rogers, Potts, Teel, among
others. Our early Gaddis history begins in Fannin County, Texas in 1880 when
Allen C. Gaddis married Alice Rogers Whalin. Alice, her son, William, and two
daughters are found in 1900 in Indian Territory, Oklahoma, which later became
Tishomingo, Johnston County, Oklahoma. William Gaddis and his wife, Bettie Lee
Sheppard Barnes, moved their family to Texas in 1928.

Allen
C GADDIS born 1855 in Michigan. Married Alice Ann ROGERS on 3 Oct 1880 in
Bonham, Texas. Alice was born on 27 July 1860 in Kentucky. They had two
children:
1. Benjamin Allen GADDIS b: 28 Aug 1881 in Bonham, Texas
2. William GADDIS b: 18 Oct 1883 in Texas
Alice was married first to John Talbert WHALIN in 1877. To this marriage there
was one son:
1. George Talbert WHALIN.
Allen GADDIS was her second marriage. Then she married William Thomas CHAPMAN in
1887. To this marriage she had two girls:
1. Myrtle Clay CHAPMAN
2. Mattie Thomas CHAPMAN
Alice Chapman died on 18 August 1937 in Ada, Oklahoma.
William GADDIS b: 18 Oct 1883 in Texas d: 3 June 1962 in Dallas, Texas. William
married Bettie Lee SHEPPARD on 8 Aug 1906 in Milburn, Oklahoma. They had 7
children:
1. Lemuel Thomas GADDIS b: 8 May 1908 Tishomingo, Oklahoma (deceased). He
married Daisy POTTS, lived in Ponca City, Okla.
2. Richard Haden GADDIS b: 2 Nov 1910 Tishomingo, Oklahoma (deceased). Lived in
Dallas until his death, married very late in life.
3. Nora Helen GADDIS b: 3 Nov 1913 Tishomingo, Oklahoma. She married Jesse James
Nix, lived in Dallas area.
4. Betty Lucille GADDIS b: 5 June 1920 Tishomingo, Oklahoma. She married Francis
Green, still lives in Dallas.
5. John Daniel GADDIS, Sr. b: 29 Sept 1923 Tishomingo, Oklahoma (deceased).
First married Lucia Joan Matyasik before marrying Vera Maxine
Lee, lived in Dallas most of his life before moving to the Cedar
Creek area.
6. Julia Marie GADDIS b: 6 March 1925 Tishomingo, Oklahoma She married James
William Thomas Lyon, still lives in Dallas.
7. Douglas Cornelius GADDIS, Sr. b: 24 Nov 1928 Tishomingo, Oklahoma. He married
several times, still lives in Dallas area.
