MACKENZIE, Mary (b. 15 JUL 1828, d. 13 MAR 1860)
Note: Mary died shortly after the birth of her son, Alexander, at Sittang, Burma, about 30 miles below Shoaygheen, where there is a tomb. Her husband visited the tomb in 1878 in company with his daughter Mary Jane.

Mary Jane wrote, in a letter to her Aunt Ann (30 September 1865): "....my brother Alexander was born, and he was about three months old when we left for a place called Sittang, about 30 miles away from where we lived, for the benefit of dear Mama's health; dear Papa was unable to accompany us, as he was in command of the regiment; a Doctor Alcock (afterwards our surgeon) very kindly invited us to spend a short time with him; my Mama would often look a little better and strong, when she would again have an attack of fever (which she suffered a great deal from) and then sink again; about three weeks after we arrived at Sittang, her left leg commenced to swell very much, so that she was not able to walk; and a week after she died (13th March 1860) leaving five of us in a strange land...."

DINWIDDIE, Robert (b. 29 MAR 1778, d. 14 JUL 1845)
Note: A farmer at "Penpont", a clachan on the road to Glasgow and Galloway, north of the Portrack Hills, and about 11 miles from Killcraft (3-4 miles north of Dumfries). In 1803 he was Acting Steward over the estate of the late Mr Maitland.

He had a relation, Mr Thorburn, of Douglass-Dale (a farm?).
