Bonnie,
I descend from Edward Mulhollan and his wife Martha Keeney of Lane Co., OR. They arrived there in 1851 from Holt Co., Missouri along with their sons Thomas and Edward and a whole passel of Keeney's. Edward was from county Wicklow in Ireland. Here is my writeup on him:
Nothing is known of Edward prior to his arrival in the United States except that he was born 14 January 1799 in County Wicklow, Ireland. In 1798, Ireland experienced a rebellion that took the lives of over 30,000 people. As he was raised in an orphanage, it is assumed that his parents were killed in this rebellion. One source claims that Edward came to America with an older brother named Whit. He arrived in 1818, probably through New Orleans, and in 1828 applied for citizenship in Saline county, Missouri. His occupation at this time was as a schoolteacher. This indicates that he was a learned person. He shows up in 1821 as a Tax Delinquent in Saline County, Missouri. It may be noted that Saline, Ray, Rives and Howard Counties overlapped each other at different times and a person may have lived in the same place and be listed under different counties at different times. He next appears in Ray County, Missouri where he married Martha "Patsy" Keeney on October 10, 1824 (daughter of Thomas and Nancy (Fugate) Keeney). He recorded the births of all of their children in his Bible that he had brought with him from Ireland. Edward appears on page 139 of the 1830 Howard County, Missouri census. In 1838, he becomes indentured for land in Rives County along with Thomas KEENEY. The 1840 census of Rives County, Missouri has him as a farmer along with his wife and six children. Before 1843, Edward and his in-laws moved to Holt County, Missouri where he purchased 40 acres of farmland. In 1848, he purchased 67 more acres. Edward, a farmer, and Martha were listed in the 1850 census of Holt County along with six of their children. His son Thomas Mulholland and his family lived next to Edward. Around 1850-1851, Edward, his son Thomas, and most of the KEENEY families and neighbors in Holt County organized a wagon train to go to Oregon. They departed from St. Joseph, Missouri about the first of May in 1851 and arrived in Oregon on 20 September 1851, where he homesteaded 319.06 acres of land at Pleasant Hill near Eugene City. He and his sons operated a General Store in Eugene. He died 16 Jan. 1858 from pneumonia or tuberculosis and is buried near Pleasant Hill, Oregon along with his wife. Children:
