Note: In the beginning, the primary purpose of the New York state censuses, taken in the years of 1825, 1835, 1845, 1855, 1865, 1875, 1892, 1905, 1915 and 1925, was to keep track of the agricultural and manufacturing production of the population, not to keep track of individuals for taxation or voting purposes. Not all of the census records have survived to the present day for all the counties of New York state. The above record was copied in the summer of 1996 from the original census in the Yates County courthouse.
(2) According to the Bunce Family Bible record, including the mother, Rhoda (Loomis) Bunce, there were 7 women in the family, and included daughters named Orpha, Nancy, Betsey, Sophia, Thankful and Rhoda Ann.
(3) According to the Bunce Family Bible record, Loomis Bunce, the eldest son in the family, would have been the only one to match this category, since he was born in 1804, and would have been 21 years old at the time of the 1825 census. Peter Bunce, Sr., having been born in 1772, was 53 years old in 1825.
(4) According to the Bunce Family Bible record, the head of this household, Peter Bunce, Sr. and his eldest son (2nd child), Loomis Bunce, were the only ones that matched this description.
(5) According to the Bunce Family Bible record, the mother of this family, Rhoda (Loomis) Bunce, was born in 24 Mar 1782, and therefore, she would have been 43 years old in 1825.
(6) According to the Bunce Family Bible record, the daughters named Thankful (b. July, 1810), Sophia (b. Jun 1819) and Rhoda Ann (b. Aug 1821) were all under the age of 16 years, but daughters named Orpha (b. Jun 1802), Nancy (b. Jun 1806) and Betsey (b. Oct. 1808), were all over the age of 16.
(7) According to the Bunce Family Bible record, the last child born in Peter Bunce, Sr.'s family was Peter Bunce, Jr. who was born in Oct. 1823.

Inquiries to the county clerks' offices have revealed that there are no land records in Ontario, Yates or Steuben Counties, New York for the purchase of land by Peter Bunce, Sr. between 1823, when the family moved to Barrington, Yates Co., New York, and the date of his death in 1844.
